Finally seeing some running/base stealing. I like the aggressiveness

Well the mets BP just crapped a 6-1 lead right down the toilet.

Game is tied 6-6 in the 8th.

I was screaming for Callaway to get deGrom out right after his last K and he was at about 100 pitches in the 7th....but he left him in and it started going downhill from there...it took 3 BP arms (lugo, blevins, ramos) to get another out...now Familia gives the lead to Wash.

Inning began 6-1 Mets...now it's 7-6 Nats.
Fucking collapse and gut punch.

And just think, Daniel Murphy wasn't even involved.

Sheeeesh!!!

Suddenly nobody can throw a strike...but really can't complain about the bullpen after one bad outing

Metsies find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory....
deGrom was solid for 7.1 innings, but the bullpen was ineffective and imploded in an 8th inning mess.

Nats score 6 in 8th in comeback win vs. Mets

Nationals vs. Mets - Game Recap - April 16, 2018 - ESPN

Mets: OF Yoenis Cespedes, who played in the Mets' first 14 games, didn't start. The slugger was hitting just .190, striking out 26 times in 58 at-bats. Callaway says Cespedes' timing at the plate is slightly off, and felt a break might help. Cespedes flied out as a pinch hitter. ... OF Jay Bruce (plantar fasciitis) didn't start for the second straight game. He grounded out as a pinch hitter. He hopes to be in the lineup Tuesday.

UP NEXT:

Nationals: LHP Gio Gonzalez (1-1, 2.20 ERA) is 10-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 15 career starts at Citi Field.

Mets: RHP Zack Wheeler (1-0, 1.29) pitched seven sharp innings at Miami in his season debut, retiring the last 16 batters he faced. He is 2-7 lifetime vs. Washington -- tagged by the Nats in his final two starts in spring training, he got sent to the minors to begin the season.

I really hope Sandy isn't standing pat on the catcher situation.
Plawecki is out for who knows how long, and d'Arnaud is done for the season.
Mets are in serious need of an upgrade from Lobaton & Nido, both behind, and at the plate.

3-0 Nats mid 4th.

Wheeler was decent the 1st time thru the lineup....2nd time, not so much.

Looks like the Mets are feeling the carryover after effects from last night's deflating giveaway loss, while the Nats have been pumped up with new found enthusiasm.

Mets trailing 5-2 bottom 8th.

They'll need to mount a comeback in the 9th to avoid losing their 1st series of the season.

Nationals vs. Mets - Game Recap - April 17, 2018 - ESPN

BULLPEN SHUFFLE

The Mets called up RHP Gerson Bautista from Double-A Binghamton and optioned RHP Hansel Robles to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The 22-year-old Bautista, acquired from Boston last summer for reliever Addison Reed, made his major league debut and pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up a double and walk.

Robles was 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in eight games. He gave up Howie Kendrick's homer in the ninth Monday night. "He probably didn't deserve to go down," Callaway acknowledged.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Mets: OFs Jay Bruce (plantar fasciitis) returned to the lineup after missing two starts. ... LHP Jason Vargas (broken bone, glove hand) threw six hitless innings and struck out 12 in an intrasquad game, pitching from behind a screen in a controlled setting. He'll next pitch in a minor league game in five days.

UP NEXT

Mets: LHP Steven Matz (1-1, 3.77) got a no-decision at Washington this month, striking out eight in five innings without allowing an earned run, pitches the Wednesday series finale.
He is 1-2 with a 1.85 ERA in five career starts vs. the Nationals.

Nationals: RHP Tanner Roark (1-1, 3.50 ERA) starts as the Nats go for a sweep Wednesday. He got a no-decision vs. the Mets this month, giving up five runs in five innings and fanning nine.

Well Hot Damn!

Miracles Happen.

2 nights ago the Mets gave away a pretty comfortable 5 run lead with a horrendous 8th inning BP collapse....but tonight, the Nats returned the favor in the 8th with their own BP meltdown, when the Amazin's put up 9 runs to win the finale 11-5, and avoid a heart wrenching sweep.
