Whats with all the Ebron love all of a sudden? Lions tried to trade him but noone wanted to give anything up for him. Did any team other than the Colts (and maybe the Browns) even talk to him?
Don't know.

But we're gonna toss out more picks for an unknown TE.

I like when GMs make their teams better during the offseason. Not worse. Glad Martha saved at tax time though. That extra money laying around will be great when someone cuts our new Tyrun Walker. Also should've paid Whitehead.

I don't think it is Ebron Love, it was more cutting him when they have no other options. They hurt the team to save money, but then did not use that new available money to improve one thing. Ebron is not good enough, but he is still significantly better then anything else the Lions have. It was a bad cut.

I think you are underestimating Toilolo. He has upside still and was only not resigned because ATL drafted Saubert last year (The guy I said we should have drafted). Roberts is expected to be the guy. We will see if he steps up or not but I think he will. At least they will not be all over the place like Ebron was dropping every other pass. I dont like having to hope the guy catches the ball when it is thrown at him. I like knowing it will be caught most of the time.

Also, Ebron could be the next Titus Young the way he is talking now. Next thing you know he will be saying he is better than Gronk.

Maybe not. I think they want to roll with what they got now and if it dont work out then draft a guy next year. Whitehead was not terrible but its not like he fits our new system either. He would be a tweener now.

Tyrun was awful. He got manhandled constantly and that was the year before last so its not like we did not improve on the DL already. Unless you want Christian Ringo starting again.

Oh, I know.

But it's signings like his that were gonna make with the savings from cutting our third receiving option.

Ohhh you are right. I meant Kevin Jones. Not sure if any of you guys remember him.

Jones was exiting for the 2nd half of his rookie year then he kept getting hurt, Smith was just a stupid pick.

Didn't both #34's go over 1k yards onthe season and have multiple games over 100 yards? As low as that bar is, that would look pretty fucking amazing around here these days.

Im a fan of each of our last three #34's.

Best all around backs we've had since James Stewart.

Especially when we moved up to get him and Jamal Charles went shortly after.

Millen was the worst.

South Carolina TE Hayden Hurst is visiting the Lions on Tuesday.

It is a clear need for the Lions, who were interested in last year's tight end class but did not invest until the third day. Since then they cut Eric Ebron and have yet to replace his receiving skills. Hurst might be the first player at his position off the board.

I still think we will roll with just Roberts and Toilolo and the Wilson brothers (or at least one of them).

DETROIT LIONS (Mebert)

1.20 : Taven Bryan - DT - Florida
2.19 : Arden Key - OLB/DE - LSU
3.18 : Rashaad Penny - RB - San Diego St.
4.17 : P.J. Hall - DT - Sam Houston St.
5.16 : Scott Quessenberry - C - UCLA
7.19 : Leon Jacobs - OLB - Wisconsin

Here is the draft, looking back I could have done better. Key has a ton of talent, but may spend more time suspended than playing. On top of that he can really only play in the 4-3 on passing downs. We need some 3-4 LB's so overall I am fine with it. Just a huge gamble for that pick.

I took Bryan over Landry because I felt he fit 2 bigger needs(4-3 DT and 3-4 DE), Then in the 4th I took PJ Hall. I think that guy is a future stud, and he can do a lot of what Bryan does. I never took a NT and we don't have one currently, so while I think the rotation of Hall, Bryan, and Robinson adds a lot of depth for both defensive alignments I left a sizable hole at a critical position.

I wish I had taken a guard earlier, but I don't see where I could fit it in. Only one other interior olineman went between the 4th and 5th picks and I prefer the guy I got, so unless I was using a top 3 on guard it is as good as I could have hoped.

I think Jacobs is a steal in the 7th.

Overall I would have been better to go

1. Harold Landry OLB/DE
2. Ronald Jones RB
3. BJ Hill NT
4. PJ Hall DE/DT
5. Scott Quesenberry G/C or Jaylen Samuels FB/TE
7. Leon Jacobs - ST/OLB

I give myself a C+

For giggles here are the last 2 I did for the Lions

2016:
1.1.16 : Jack Conklin - OT - Michigan St.
2.15.47 : Kenny Clark - DT - UCLA
3.33.97 : Will Redmond - CB - Mississippi St.
4.13.113 : Matt Judon - DE - Grand Valley St.
5.12.153 : Isaac Seumalo - OG - Oregon St.
5.32.173 : Nick Kwiatkoski - ILB - West Virginia
6.16.195 : Kavon Frazier - S - Central Michigan
6.27.206 : Parker Ehinger - OG - Cincinnati
6.35.214 : Hunter Sharp - WR - Utah State
7.15.240 : Jared Norris - OLB - Utah

The Good:
Conklin would have saved us a fortune on Wagner. Would be our best oline player
Clark Reliable DT, I like him
Judon 8 sacks last year, seems like he will be a player
Seumalo Rotational gaurd in the 5th is not bad

The Meh
Kwiatkoski has done less than I expected
Frazier is fine for a 6th round

The bad
Redmond.......ooof...DON'T YOU LOOK AT ME!!!
Ehinger, Sharp, And Norris. not terrible for late 6th early 7th. not real good either

2017:
1.21 : Haason Reddick - LB - Temple
3.79 : Kareem Hunt - RB - Toledo
3.85 : Adam Shaheen - TE - Ashland
3.86 : Justin Evans - SS - Texas A&M
4.127 : Brendan Langley - CB - Lamar
5.165 : Hunter Dimick - DE - Utah
6.199 : Tanzel Smart - DT - Tulane
6.205 : Isaiah McKenzie - WR - Georgia
7.250 : Samson Ebukam - OLB - Eastern Washington

The Good
Reddick looked good before that injury
Hunt I am a fucking legend!
McKenzie without drafting Agnew he would be our returner
Evans is slid for a third

Jury still out on
Langley, Shaheen, Smart

The Bad
Dimick there is a reason that I gave up on drafting Utah people.

Nice. I had Reddick, Hunt, and Smart in 2017 as well I believe. I had Saubert later instead of Shaheen. Eric looked decent and allowed Atlanta to part with Toilolo so I guess it kind of worked out for me. And of course we picked my boy Kenny G (no that guy, the football player). I would have killed it last year.

A Jags site is doing a first round fan mock, and they were up to the Lions #20 pick a couple days ago.

2018 BCC mock draft: Vote on the Lions pick at No. 20

Votes were split among Taven Bryan, Marcus Davenport, Harold Landry and Will Hernandez.

The pick went to Davenport, who beat out Landry by one vote.

* This post is completely meaningless, and barely interesting, I know. But it's a week before the draft.

I have been thinking about a non traditional short draft recently. I know we should go defense early and often, but for giggles I like the idea of

1.20 Will Hernandez
2.51 Nick Chubb
3.82 Breeland Speaks or Jalyn Holmes

Get a Monster run blocking guard, a big and fast RB and then a pass rusher. I think that moves our running game from worst in the lead to top 15, a huge jump. It makes the defense a negative for the year, but with the massive scheme change I think the defense will not be good next year regardless. This gives another year for the current players to get adjusted to the new D scheme and the next year load up on Defense.

Anyway, I still prefer going defensive line early and often, I just liked the idea of this after I thought about it.

You think our run game is 2 rookies away from being top 15 in the league?
