Is the campus truly closed off to the public?

Can we walk onto campus and take a walk around? Can we drive on? I have heard rumors of guardhouses and gates. Do I need to get on the phone and make a GD appointment as a visiting professor, just to take an hour walk and see the campus?

Nope, I've been to the campus about 10 times and although only 2-3 times weren't on game days I never had any trouble getting on campus. I've never even heard of that. You'll have no problem just going there and walking around.

Went there years ago with my pa, bumped into Regis Philbin, wasn't shaken down. It was a fine day and a Irish victory. Now if you're a Miami or USC fan I can't guarantee you anything.:pound::trash:

I have been questioned at the guard booth near the bookstore.

I'm sure you are wishing for those days again, instead you get to watch your team implode with a few seconds left.

I'm still living in those days :L

although, we did fill up Joe Robbie this year for the Miami game

The sad thing is they aren't that bad, hopefully Riley can turn things around because some of it is on him.

Parking on campus during a football weekend is sometimes a pain, because there aren't a lot of spaces, but if you get to the guard booth, just tell him you're going to the bookstore. He's mostly there to tell you how to get where you are going. If its during the week, getting on campus is nothing. Just park at the bookstore or by the stadium. Driving on campus makes no sense because the only road is a big circle around the campus.

I went for a game 2 seasons ago. We went a day or two early and spent Friday on campus getting pictures all over campus. No one questioned us. They had the main entrance to the stadium open and we walked down to the field (just off the field). They had a PLACT sign set up for visitors to take pictures with. We visited the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Administration Building and the grotto. We got into the Joyce Center and got some pics of the basketball court, and went to the Pep Rally at the Hockey arena. No one questioned us even once. They were helpful in getting around and were very accommodating. I can't imagine anyone giving you a hard time. Enjoy your time on campus and GO IRISH!

It's been 19 years since I was there but I didn't have any problem either. Got tons of pics at the Joyce Center, the Grotto, the marigold ND logo, and of course the Golden Dome.
