Grass season is here. A couple of tune ups and then Wimby. Hall of Fame after that.

First up Top shelf and Mercedes cup already started.

Next week is Aegon and Gerry Weber

Still Fed's best chance to make a deep run at a major, IMO. I remember talking about it with somebody last year who thought it was clay and hard, but I disagree completely. His forehand doesn't have the oomph it used to have, and the high bounce on clay and hard is just way too much for him to handle on the backhand side for 3-5 sets.

Federer uses the low bounce on grass to the best advantage of anybody on tour.

Agreed. US Open as well, but Wimby the best chance. Conversly Rafa will have a tough time. I think Stan will be interesting to see. One would think his game would transfer to grass better than clay and RA but so far it has not been the case. Murray probably not going to get it but he has been improving so a good draw could get him there. I would make Nole the favorite again.

Are there any players coming back who have been out a while?

Mahut kicking ass again on grass.

Tomic and Nadal will be interesting.

Didn't you kind of like his chances on clay (even if less so on grass)?

Never mind, looked up the post I was thinking of. You said "make the second week", which isn't the same as being a real contender at major, so never mind.

He's won zero hard court majors in almost 5 years, and has beaten Murray once, and Nole and Rafa zero times during that time span in New York or Melbourne.

If he lucks out and gets a draw where he only has to face 1 of those guys in the tournament, maybe he could win another hard court major. The odds of that are pretty slim, unfortunately.

As I said before, I like his chances to make it deep into the 2nd week on grass or clay consistenly a lot more than on hard.

My only concern with him on grass is being able to return serves, and get some break chances. But I'm less concerned this year, than last year. I think he's been returning ok this year.

Do you think its FED's backhand slice on grass that's better than other players' slices on grass?

Andy and Stan are the top 2 seeds here

2 different grass court tournaments are going on at the same time next week.

Queens Club in London and Gerry Weber open in Germany.

Andy and Stan are the top 2 seeds in Queens Club while Fed and Kei are the top 2 seed in Germany

I really wish they would have those on different weeks. Have 2 decent tournies before Wimby. Almost like noone cares about the first 2. Nadal actually won one of them. Mahut the other.

Fed already struggling with Kolshreiber

Nadal not as fortunate. Out in this one already.

On the plus side, Jared Donaldson played a tight match with Isner 7-6, 6-4. The fact the kid is already staying even with top 20 players is pretty good. Taylor Dent is starting to have an impact on him.

For those who are following this grass court tourney at Queens instead of Halle where Federer is playing; it's well underway and suffered it's 1st upset with the #5 seed, Nadal going out in 3 sets to Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3 6-7(6) 6-4! Rafa had MP in the 2nd set from what I hear and missed entirely too many 1st serves to be successful on a grass court! He allowed Dolpo to come back from a break down at 2-4, and lost the last 4 games and the match! As a result, he won't have much of a chance elevating his world ranking of #10 in time to get a better seeding at Wimbledon! Follow:

Haas didn't play well against Seppi.

I want to see a Isner - Cilic match.
