Bettman on the NHL at the Olympics:

“After five experiences, it hasn’t had any positive impact, at least here in North America.”

I was feeling pretty positive after this game.

If we go back more years, I was feeling pretty positive after this game as well.

they were throwing it around in the cesspool yesterday ... what if the NHL quit the olympics but then shutdown during the Olympics and had their world cup at the same time as the olympics ... in north america

The problem with the World Cup is that the Euroz don't see it as a competition akin to the Olympics (not that the North American players do but they may be more amenable to a changed mentality). Half of players will probably never see the tournament they're promoting as anything other than a gimmick while the league wrongfully disallows them from doing what they really want to do.

There's one certainty after last September that the NHL is surely aware of by now: as long as the NHL allows their players to participate in the Olympics, the WC will never grow beyond what it is today.

If he thinks the IOC and their TV partners, particularly those in North America, wouldn't jump at the chance of having NHLers in Beijing even if they don't go to South Korea he's on some new shit. Nobody here is holding their ground on a matter of principle. It's all about money.

Time to blow it up and start all over. Moving ice hockey to the summer olympics makes a ton of sense. Then have NBA and NHL players for their respective countries switch. NHL stars would play for the basketball medals and NBA stars would play for the hockey medals. You telling me you wouldn't want to watch OV post up against Sid or LeBron attempt a slapper?

/I know I'd watch because I would have money on it

I'd prefer to see a hybrid of the two. We'll let Chara and Bishop play basketball in exchange for guys like LeBron or Steph Curry having to get dirty in the corners and block a few shots.
