""After winning 1-0 the first two nights in Los Angeles, the Giants were shut out twice. They became the first team in 30 years to score just two runs in the first four games of the season and the first Giants team ever to fail to score more than one run in each of the first four games."

I knew it was bad, but historically bad? Good god!

Nothing is historically bad when looking at a 4-game sample size.

I just showed you that it was. I even bolded the statemnt that shows it was historically bad. "First team in history......" means historical

DiDi Gregorius tearing it up in NY today with two homers and 8 RBI. The announcer just said "Gregorius is on the verge of having an historic day" But how can that be? Calsnowskier just informed us above that you cannot have historic events with such a small sample size. Man that announcer must be dumb!

I feel like the Giants are being a bit underrated. Losing Bumgarner hurts but the Giants philosophy has always been around run prevention. Their defense is a hell of a lot better with Jackson, McCutchen and Longoria than last year and their bats will perform better than last year as well. Scoring a lot of runs isn't a big deal, winning a lot of close games and sneaking into the playoffs to potentially make a run is.

their offense should be significantly improved IMO. Even before the trades, there were several guys you could expect positive regression from. I still think the pitching staff was iffy even if they had those two healthy. If they can tread water until those two come back, I don't see why they can't make a run as one of the WC teams.

You would think so but whatever this hang dog mentality that hangs over the Giants is seems to rub off on players when they come here and they don't hit. Its been going on for over a season and a half and they don't know how to get over it.

If they don't start hitting soon the season will be lost before the missing starters come back

Yeah, I agree. And McCutchen starting slow really shouldn't be that much of a surprise. He's had multiple seasons where he can't hit anything in the first month of the season, but then by the end of the year he was discussed for NL MVP. His overall numbers for April/May are not even close to what he does the other months. He's streaky but once he gets comfortable in his new surroundings there will probably be some times where he carries the team for a week straight.

Couldn’t even manage 2 touchdowns against a team that doesn’t feature a single NFL-level player.

Pitiful.
