word are crazy. see i read it with more of a sarcastic and condescending tone but reread after your response and saw it a different way

i have known shark from the computer for decades . i will always believe he will give me the straight deal as he sees it . i also believe strongly that we are freinds and i value what he says enough to research what he says and ask my friends i see everyday about his POV . more often then not they concur so i have to believe what my friend shark is saying and hence i need to help my freind out because i believe he helps me do what i want to do

teach my kids right

my thing about racism is it swings both ways . you cant be all aghast when someone tells a racist joke from one race about another and not be aghast when the joke is flipped back on the other race

how can you cry racism on roseanne (which it is by the way ) but look the other way when maher goes after trump with the same type of ape joke . it all comes down to what side of the political isle you sit on and that is wrong .

either you let a joke be a joke (cant see how racist jokes can be let go by the way ) or you say it cant be allowed and not to be criticized (notice i didnt say anything bashing the 1st amendment )

white supremacists do not speak for anything near the majority of white people . david duke and the KKK no more speak for white people then loius farakhan and the black panthers speak for black people . these are a few scant radicals

the liberal press however features these nut jobs and paints them with all one big broad brush for their own liberal/socialist agenda

when does the liberal media ever point out a white man getting his ass beat , while resisting arrest , or being shot by cops ? if you watch CNN , ABC , CBS , NBC , CNBC MSNBC NPR you would think a white man has never been shot by a cop , ever

a cop shooting or roughing up any race or targeting any race for crimes with no probable cause should be jailed period

we as a human people have got to start treating all men and women as we would want to be treated ourselves and teach our children this . racism is a learned behavior o that is where we start and continue to focus

black people have the toughest task of all , they must put behind past injustices and work with us to eliminate this issue . . if revenge is what is being sought out then more hate will come into play

blacks commit 5 X more violent crimes against whites then white commit against blacks . that stat screams anger and i am not saying blacks dont have a right to feel like they do . but if we cant put our differences aside then nothing will be solved

i think one big thing is to work on poverty . single parents raising kids have like a 72 % chance of being poor . we have spent billions of dollars on poverty and govt programs but very little gets to the people . we need to hold govt officials at all levels accountable for this

if we raise the standard of living for people i believe there will be less scapegoating and hence less racism

Daniel Shaver is by far the worst case of police brutality I have ever seen in my life. I was really shook after I saw the body cam video, thats how bad it was. If Shaver was black this country would have lost their fucking minds. As it is it was covered for a little then brushed under the rug.

The name Shaver doesnt invoke the same amount of emotion as Gray, Brown, Rice, Martin and there is really no reason it shouldnt. The video/proof is a lot worse and a lot more damning.

Now you had me on everything until you said increase the standard of living. If you meant raise minimum wages to $15 an hour I disagree. Just causes inflation and a kick in the ass to turnover some service positions to AI. If you meant legalizing marijuana and using the tax revenue from it to pump into the infrastructure of struggling inner cities I would agree.

I blame pretty much everything that is wrong with this country socially on media. I think journalism as we know it is hanging by a thread. I think there needs to be a major major reform. Something needs to change I just dont know how

What statements are commonly associated with white supremacy???

Calling or associating black people with Monkeys is one. Considering that taking blacks as slaves was considered OK because after all blacks were thought to be an offshoot of monkeys. Thus not quite human.

Not saying you are wrong but never heard that blacks were taken as slaves because they were an offshoot of monkeys. I always thought it was just a racist way of trying to make yourself feel better when you were doing something you knew was wrong to start with. Why were the Jews taken as slaves? I could go on about other cultures that were enslaved also but you get the point?

ON the Shaver thing, I agree it was dead wrong and a clear case of police brutality. The reason (right or wrong) why it was not given as much traction as the others you mentioned is just this. The odds of a white police officer getting a little over zealous because the offender was white are very slim. NOt to say it cant happen. But no one asked or will ask, is it possible Philip Brailsford doesnt like white people and there for was ok with going a little over board. Not an excuse, but a reality of the situation and the world we live in. Kind of like when one black person kills another black person, the question is never asked... well was this a hate crime??

NOt going to drop the whole research piece on the board.

For centuries the West has found it useful to compare black people to monkeys

Read it if you like and draw your own conclusion.

Why are blacks targeted with simian slurs?

What explains this disastrous association of black people with simians? A combination of factors might be the cause:

  • The prevalence of a variety of great apes in Africa, closest in size to humans. The Asian great ape population is more limited, while in the Americas one finds monkeys, but no apes.
  • The extent of the aesthetic “distance” between whites and blacks, the white perspective seeing in those of African origin greater physical “otherness” (not merely in skin color and hair texture but facial features) as compared with other “nonwhite” races.
  • The higher esteem generally accorded by Europeans to Asian as compared with African civilisations.
  • And above all the psychic impact of hundreds of years of racial slavery in modernity, which stamped ‘Negroes’ as permanent sub-persons, natural slaves, in global consciousness. Large scale chattel slavery required reducing people to objects. Precisely because of that it also required the most thorough and systematic kind of dehumanization in the theorization of that reality.

weird my post disappeared...

He treats religions fairly and thinks they are all absurd unlike CNN or MSNBC who will prop up Islam and shit over any christian values

His take on journalism is right and he can see where people who dont share his political leanings are coming from

He is not pigeonholed by who he typically supports. Also his show is on HBO and people have to pay to get that premium channel.

I thought you were saying they are absurd.

Slavery was about economics.

If you think treating white people is OK because they treated black people poorly, Dr. King would be appalled.

If discrimination is wrong, then it is wrong with whomever it is done to.

If you excuse one person for a crime, you should excuse all people for the same crime...thus it shouldn’t be a crime.

If person A gets 20 years for crime B, then person B should get 20 years for crime B.

Man what I would give to be in a room with Philip Brailsford for 10 minutes.

More white men are killed by cops then black men. This is actually a true statistic. The likelihood of a black man being killed by a cop has a higher probability based off census. With that said the breakdown doesnt factor in socioeconomic factors and crime rates.

Regardless if a cops motive for a killing is race related they should be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law without question. The cop who killed Walter Scott should be on death row for instance. Since he got a semi light conviction I will stand with everyone who is outraged as that is fucked.... Shaver innocent GTFOH the entire country should be outraged.

Where the discourse is happens when every single time there is a shooting it gets sensationalized immediately in the media and it is automatically assumed to be a hate crime, white on black and thats all that matters. The media essentially convicts the cop before the story and evidence comes out and when the cop or cops get off there is a national uproar which is a result of the earlier coverage. The media effectively draws a line in the sand and creates division.

I do not deny that there are bad cops or that there are racist cops. I think they need to be weeded out by providing internal affairs additional funding to fix this. I'm not sure if it should be broadcast or not as it could make IAs job a bit more difficult but could help with public relations.

I'm also not taking a shot a cops, but I think its a bit too easy to become one. Some of the biggest scumbags I know from HS have become cops in really desirable small affluent towns. Maybe bi annual physical, aptitude, and psychological testing is needed? Regardless ive noticed that joining the police academy has become a fallback for some of the less then outstanding citizens I grew up with.

How bout dem Caps boys?

Classic deflection post eh :suds:

Yep - this is both fun & nerve wracking at the same time. This is also unfamiliar territory for us Caps fans - actually participating in a Stanley Cup Final where they have a pretty decent chance. I also love the attitude of Ovie & several others - all business.

Just hard to describe to non-NHL fans what is like watching an NHL playoff game - it is one of the tougher things to endure - much more stressful than say watching an NFL or NBA playoff game since things can change dramatically in a matter of seconds & you almost never feel like your team has clinched the game until the game is over (unlike big leads in other sports).

GO CAPS!

And you are missing WHY it gets sensitized as you put it every time a white police officer kills a black person. SO without being inflammatory let me try and explain the real issue.

Just because a white cop kills or brutalizes a black person, I honestly dont think its because he hates blacks or that its a hate crime. I do think this country has a long standing history of black people being considered of less value than white people. And while its not as openly stated as it was in say the 50's back when America was apparently great, there is still a socially accepted mantra that things like racial profiling is ok against blacks and gets explained away with statements like "Well they come from a damaged. violent culture."

So at the end of the day, if a white cop goes all MMA on a white suspect and goes over board, there isnt a question of, did he value this life less because of his skin color.

Or lets take racial context out for a second... think of it this way... Why dont we eat dogs and cats here in America?? Because these are seen as pets, companions and in some households extended family members. Higher up on the chain of animals than say a cow or a pig. We also dont eat Horses for the same reason. But in other parts of the world, these arent pets.. they are food. Because they dont hold the possibility of it being a pet as high as we Americans do.

SO here is why many non whites consider Trump a white supremacist.

His views on immigration and the policies he is trying to put in place are directly designed to maintain superiority in numbers of whites in this country. Even discounting the wall which is designed to keep a certain ethnic populations growth in America under control. He wants to cut off completely or seriously limit the number of non whites coming into the country both illegally (which I agree with) but also legally.

I see it as security issue

I see it as a major loss in tax revenue

I also see it as desiring more highly skilled immigrants from more developed countries then lower skilled ones from less developed countries i.e. more indians, chinese, europeans, northwest africans and less mexicans, central americans, south americans, and middle easterners. I mean is that really racist or just attempting to preserve self interests $$$

Say you are in the school yard and are playing pickup basketball and picking teams. You are going to pick the best players. If the best players happen to be black and the shitty ones are white is that racist or are you just trying to win?

Teddy Roosevelt is probably my favorite president in American history so I generally adapt a lot of his philosophies and isolationism to an extent is one of them. Looking out for #1

the US cant keep taking in unskilled illegal immigrants and expect to feed . cloth , house and give medical to these people while americans are homeless .

my huge beef is its is seen as racist to build a wall but oh lest we forget we give these countries aid to help their poor . mexico 25 bil guatamala 28 bil , el salvadore 40 bil , columbia 35 bil Nicaragua 20 bil a year . more then enough to help these people out of poverty if it werent for corruption of their govt's .

after all of that i still have to pay 125 billion to care for them here , so when does our obligation end to help and when do these countries start to be held accountable ? it has nothing to do with race and everything about our govt being held accountable for failed policies and wanting positive change and priorities that put american citizens first

Is it heartless to want to cut off all foreign aid and redistribute that money into rural appalachia and struggling inner cities?

My favorite Trump move of his presidency by far was when the United States stood up to everyone in the UN during the Israel-Jerusalem vote.

We essentially said we contribute a fuck ton of money in foreign aid to many of the countries voting and we will be taking notes on how you vote. I thought that demonstrated a tremendous amount of strength that had previously been lacking the past 8 years.
