Ok, everyone here knows Nuraman is a robotic stat machine. He is sound fundamentally with his use of statistics/observations and his knowledge of multiple sport measurements, knowing the flaws of overrated/overused statistics or strengths of underrated/underused stats.

What I am about to post is an exercise of WTF with stats that don't even resemble anything reliable in any way due to game flow, context, or anything else but just my own twisted interests.

So, with advance apologies to @nuraman00 - here's my stat.

Dante Exum has had fluctuating minutes played throughout the year. Without just looking at per36 numbers, I wanted to see a flow. So looking at game by game stats, I combined games to get into the 17-44 minutes, at the mercy of whole games being added up. Here's how it played out:

Min FGM FGA 3PTM 3PTA FTM FTA REB AST BLK STL TO PTS

So he averages 0.62 steals and 3.30 assists per 36?

And that doesn't look like a good FG% either, 2.15/3.89.

Sounds like someone who should not be renewed.

I also think you fundamentally soundlessly used the stats.

2.15 is the number of FTA per 36. 3.89 is the rebounds per game. He shoots 4.53/10.6 per 36.

2.15/3.89 would be a great percentage. :)

That was a typo, I meant FT%. Not sure how I typed FG%, because I was clearly thinking FT% the whole time. Not sure how I didn't see the typo either.

Ahh, so it's 1.71/2.15 on FTs - 79.53%

That's better, but if the best thing we can say about him is that he makes 79% of his FTs on 2.15 attempts per game, then there's not many good things to say.

Maybe if he were attempting 5.8 attempts per game, we could officially call him a slasher.

I like that he has an X in his name. I like that his jersey number is #11. I like that he plays for the Jazz. Australia would be fun to visit one day. I like that he's still like a Junior in college but with NBA experience.

I like that his per 36 numbers are 12+ points. 3.3 assists is low, but have you seen what our assist leader averages? 42.78% FGs is better than last year...

Even a skeleton can achieve those.

I agree, those are good things to like about him.

I had liked the Exum pick when it was made. And I'm not always pleased with Lindsey or O'Connor's decisions (see picking Kanter).

When he was drafted, the hope was that he could become the starting PG in a few years.

Then, the hope was he could become a Bledsoe type player. Won't average more than 6 assists per game, but brings value with rebounding, steals, blocks, slashing, defense, and is at capable at ball handling.

Then the hope was that he could bring enough contributions to be a rotation player.

Then the hope was that he could do one thing well enough to have a role (like Burks or Hood or CJ Miles).

Then the hope will soon become that the Jazz are quickly identifying a replacement player to replace his spot.

I think because it is impure to combine two games or more do 10 minutes played because you are put into different situations against different teams with different rules and so breaking it up in this way is sacrilegious.

Obviously, this thread was from years ago, but I did this for Agbaji as well. He has played around 12 games if we break it up into 20 to 40 minute increments and combine minutes into that.

I think I am OK with doing it for Agbaji, because he barely plays.

With Exum, it reminds me of how disappointed I was, because I expected him to have a consistent role, and he never did it successfully.

I think this is helpful to me in a sports helpful way, obviously not a real life thing to guess this is just for fun. But I feel that even if he ends up still playing only 10 to 15 minutes per game, if in a time period around 35 minutes, he scores 10 to 15 points more consistently, that means that when he does go into the game, he’s ready to score or a sister whatever that quality is and the team looks to him to do that and it’s not just filling time. However, for somebody else if I combine seven games of five minutes each and they score 3 points, then, that really means that he’s put in as an afterthought not a development. And when I say points, I really mean whatever they’re trying to do. If that’s blocks, rebounds, or whatever, are they contributing or not. I also put this in the least favorite thread category because you can do this easily by looking at there per 36 minutes thing on basketball reference.
i’m getting in the car now so I’m not checking the above right now for speech recognition errors. I wonder if there are any funny ones.

I would love nothing more than for Dante Exum to be a sister.

This is one of the few speech recognition errors that I can actually figure out: assister.

So does this mean we are going to lose too many games for an easier schedule like we won too many games for a bad rated team last year?

It means that if the Jazz don't have better guards or better guard play, they'll probably lose more games than we want them to, and it won't matter how few miles they traveled; how few backs to backs they have; or what kind of "good vibes tribe" the team is.

The broadcasters said this team is great because they laugh together.

And their nickname is "The Good Vibe Tribe".
