 So now we are concerned about the last 5/10 years? Are you only 29 years old? That's the last time the Dodgers have won the World Series in your " LIFE TIME".
I didn't say MY life time.

I said most people's lifetime. Maybe a bit of a stretch to say "most" people are < 29, but it isn't a HUGE stretch.

Fact...

Every NL West team has been to the Series since the last time the dogs went.

Fact.

Two teams that are not even in the NL West have represented the NL West in the Series since the last time the dogs went.

Yeah. Rivalries are a thing. I LOVE those truths. And WHEN they no longer are true, I will morn their loss.

Not really. The only thing that matters is the NL West standings at the end of the end. Well sometimes the Wildcard matters.
The only thing that matters at the end of the end is the World Series winner.

Granted, though, the Division winner matters ON THE WAY to the end, though.

Yeah that helps too.

As a sports fan, the prize is the championship. But we aren't even close. So I at least want to beat our rivals for some "bragging rights" and some fun smack talk.

Whatever helps you feel better about the Giants being putrid this year.

"This year" is only about 1/4 done. And maybe the Giants will suck when all is said and done.

But I have VERY recent success to lullaby myself to sleep at night. When you open your book of success, you need to race to the ER to fight off the asthma attack from all the dust on the cover.

I'm willing to bet the Giants don't make the playoffs this year.

The prospect of 5 straight division titles does keep me up at night.

It should. Only 4 other franchises have won 5 straight division titles since they went to the 3-division alignment in 1994. And only 1 failed to win the World Series in that time. The Indians from 1995-1999. Ask an Indians fan how they feel about those division titles, and they at least got to 2 World Series.

Meh. Playoffs are a crapshoot in which the team that gets the hottest at the time wins. Which is why the best teams on paper don't always win like in other sports and why you don't often see repeat champions.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't care about them

I agree. I think we are done even though there are more games to be played. This year is bad even with the Niners. The only consoling part is the Warriors. But the Giants hurt the most.

I thought the Rockies and D-Backs were pretty intrguing coming into the season, but they've been very good at run prevention. The Rockies have the 10th best ERA in MLB despite playing at Coors, and they've been down Jon Gray and Chad Bettis for almost two months. Arizona has the best team ERA+ in MLB at 136, with the Rockies 3rd at 124. For reference, the 2016 Cubs had a team ERA+ of 129.

I wouldn't expect them to play .600+ ball forever, but I think there's a pretty good chance we'll see three playoff teams out of the West.

The NL West just might be the best division in baseball.

It's a great time in the West as long as you don't root for the Giants or Padres.
