  • The three-point line will be extended by approximately 20 inches to the same distance used by FIBA for international competition (22 feet 1.75 inches).
  • The free-throw lane will be widened from 12 feet to 16 feet, consistent with the width used by the NBA.
  • The games will be divided into four 10-minute quarters, as opposed to two 20-minute halves. Teams will shoot two free throws beginning with the fifth foul of each quarter.
  • The shot clock will reset to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound instead of the full 30 seconds.

Since it has been a few years since the switch, didn't the NCAA use the NIT to test out the 30 second shot clock?

I'm guessing the same thing will apply here and these changes will be implemented during the regular season fairly soon.

I really don't have an opinion on #1 and #2. Changing to quarters is long overdue. CBB is the only basketball league in the world that uses halves instead of quarters. As an CBB over NBA guy, the fact that I'm not even nostalgic about halves is pretty telling. Make the switch.

#4 sounds like a decent idea on paper.

i dont like rule number 3, seems like it would slow down the game with the amount of shots taken

The rule I would like is to not count offensive fouls as personal fouls. Or increase the number of fouls to 7 but only if 2 are personal fouls. Norm Van Lier of the Chicago Bull also had an idea. A charge could only be called if it is committed by charging into the person closest to or guarding the offensive player. People like to see offense. It would not slow down the game but would keep offensive stars in the game longer and allow them to play defense late in the game.
