Consider it reconnaissance work on a future rival.

Who's going to be the better team come 2020 - Rebuilding (I think?? Elliotte?) Canucks or Expansion Amazons?

Judging by the Vegas experience i would say Seattle hands down ... especially if the similar franchise expansion fee means the same expansion draft rules (barring teams figuring out how to not stock seattle like they did Vegas)

but then we all know (right leafs fans???) one lottery pick player ... whether its possibly Dahlin this draft or Jack Hughes the next ... could change the canucks fortunes fast

Amazons. At least someone will be able to compete with Vegas.

Well, like the Canucks the Leafs had also stockpiled a few other youngsters prior to getting that #1. In that regard they may be set up by then.

The Leafs also had a decent periphery contingent (guys like Kadri, Gardiner, JVR), and swung a deal for an awesome goalie by trading draft picks they had sold guys off for - something I have been led to understand from some reports this week the Canucks did not do.

i have turned over a new leaf after Elliotte informed us all what Trevor told him and am aiming to be positive lol

the one thing the canucks dont have (or at least i dont have confidence in at all) is young defensive hopefuls in comparison to the Leafs in 2016 ... bring us dahlin oprah!!!

I think Demko can be Crampy Schneider redux

in 2016 Kadri was 25, Gardiner 26 and JVR 27
in 2020 Boesser will be 23 and Horvat will be 25

if Pettersson, Lind, Gaudette somehow (oprah???) can be Marner and Nylander ... who knows lol

we're gonna need alot of help from Oprah is what Im saying

Well, we all do.

This will be a fun thread to look back on in a few years after Vegas has won its third Cup in a row.

When he's doing tennis coverage for Sportsnet is about the only time I've seen that he can be quite eloquent and not a complete asshat.

It's odd that Damien had no problem with Balsillie taking season ticket deposits in Hamilton ten years ago but is so aghast now.

So my question is hockey fans which Leiweke hasn't answered. Say they get awarded the franchise which sounds like it will happen, what happens when the arena isn't completely by the fall of 2020?
