So it's Wilson's to lose as we sit, right? A big night Sunday to possibly win the division could be the game to decide this thing.

Wilson isn't a leader and Wentz is so soft he can't play a full season...so I voted Antonio Brown.

Not a great week for the presumed front-runners. I still think it's Wilson but obviously he won't get it if the Hawks miss the playoffs. Wentz is done. Brady hasn't looked good for 2 weeks now, but if he handles Pittsburgh like he usually does, he may win it by default.

If Pittsburgh wins next week, Brady is out of the running and I think Brown, Bell, or Gurley have a good shot. For a player other than a QB to get the award, usually the player has to do something historic or close to it. Peterson almost broke the rushing yards record in 2012; Faulk, Alexander, and Tomlinson each broke the TD record, Sanders almost broke the rushing record in 1997.

The last time a player didn't really meet that criteria and won the award was Emmitt in 1993, when the Cowboys were clearly the best team, he was their MVP, and that's that. And I'm sure Steve Young got a lot of consideration that year, but he had just won the previous season.

ITs gonna take a lot for voters to select Brown but he's my front runner now

I think Wentz would have taken a significant lead after how this week played out

But

Yeah don't forget, they've never voted for a wide receiver. Which makes sense because presumably the QB would be having an exceptional year too if the WR is doing something historic. But this year is a little different, Brown could end up with 120 catches for 1800 yards, both top 10 all time (and the 2nd time he's done it in 3 years, he's such a beast), while playing on a winning team, with a QB who isn't really in MVP consideration. The only other comparable I can find is Jerry Rice in 1995, who did finish 2nd in the MVP to Brett Favre.

Favre that year led the league in yards and TDs, had the 3rd most TDs ever thrown in a single season at that point and was just the 7th QB to throw for over 4400 yards. We don't have a QB reaching that level of historic achievement this year. He was also 2nd in passer rating that year while Jim Harbaugh was 1st, but Harbaugh only started 12 games.

Stars are aligned, if Brown doesn't win it this year (if the Steelers get the 1 seed), then I don't think a WR ever will.

The answer is obviously the amazeballs Alex Smith. Brady is going to win it, but it's a really weak MVP season.

Only way Brown wins MVP is if he finishes with over 2,000 yards.
Possibly. His yards/game is the 4th highest since the MVP award has been handed out, in a non-strike shortened season. And the 3 guys ahead of him played on a 4-12, 4-12, and 8-8 team.

Like I said, the only comp is Jerry Rice in 1995 and he finished 2nd to a historic QB season by Brett Favre.

That is a new record, although it's a bit of an obscure one. I think the thing that stands out for Wilson is that he's been 83% of their offense and has been involved in 32 of the teams 33 TD's this year. I think that is another record. He has basically been the Seahawks offense all by himself. But he won't win if Brady keeps playing well, and Brown is making a late charge even though he'd be a major long shot.

What about Rivers in all of this? If Wilson and Brady stumble down the stretch and the Chargers win the west after the 0-4 start, he will get a lot of recognition from voters, imo.
But if the Seahawks win the NFCW and Wilson has a strong final 3 games, he will win it for sure, I think.
