New Rules for Shootouts

I know the NHL just released a list of new rules, mostly pertaining to illegal head checks. But over the summer I thought I heard someone mention new rules re: shootouts as well. Anyone know if anything's changed re: shootouts, or am I imaging this?

I think if you lose in a SO, you dont get a point anymore. Not positive though. Only an OT loss gets you a point, not a SO loss.

It just has to do with the tie breaker for the standings.

yeah, you still get the point if you lose in the SO but if you are tied with a team at the end of the season the first tiebreaker is no longer your total wins, its only your regulation wins.

I dont know that if wins are still worth 2 points no matter what. This isnt college football, theses no difference between a quality win and a lucky win. Without any proof whatsoever, I'm going to say this is another attempt by the NHL to keep us from winning yet another division title

I like this change. However, I don't think a team should get points for losing period, but I dont think that'll ever change.

but no i agree, its more fair i think that philly ranger game last year probably prompted this change, which is a good thing.

I cant win, I'm a one man army I guess... This place is littered with Devs/Pens/Philly fans. Everyone I invite from ESPN doesnt come, oh well.

Sad but true... I can see this season being surprisingly good, or horrid. I dont see a middle this year.

i think a lot hinges on frolov for you guys. he plays well. there is more balance to your roster.

he doesn't it will probably be a team similiar to last years

Agree with new rules. And would prefer olympic methodology of points for standings:
Regulation win: 3 pts
OT/SO win - 2 pts
OT/SO loss - 1 pt
Regulation loss: 0 pts

As for NYR, I think they could be better this year if their yongsters (prospects) will start showing up on higher level of their game. But we are (NJD) better anyway.

I would prefer they do playoff style overtime with the following modifications:

First 5: 5v5
5-10: 4v4
10-xx: 3v3

No intermission, they play until someone wins. I can't imagine that it will take long to score if it's 3v3.
