a combined ranking of 33. Stanford has a combined ranking of 12. Anyone (other than me) think we can pass them before the end of the season.

Link? Also interesting... I find that reasonable for now... Could very well improve throughout the season.

US News is an Academic ranking. Stanford is 5th and 7th in AP football ranking, for a combined score of 12. We are 15th in academics and 18th in football for a combined score of 33. Since the US News scores are done for the year, we need to finish ten spots above Stanford in football to beat them. (US News isn't just academics, they have a methodology they use to give an overall ranking of colleges. ND finished in a tie for 15th)

i can't imagine a more ridiculous type of rating. why in the world would they combine a sports rank with an academic rating? as if one had anything to do with the other?

Two things that we are very proud of at ND. The quality of the athletic programs, and the quality of the university. Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, northwestern and a few others take both rankings very seriously.

Does it count towards football graduation rate if players leave early for NFL and then come to finish their schooling?

I think if a player leaves for the NFL while he is in good academic standing it does not count against the school in the way that the NCAA calculates the Graduation Success Rate. The same way that a student that transfers to another school won't count against the first school as long as the player transferring is in good academic standing.

I can see us being in the top 12-15 after this week if we win and a couple of teams lose.
