This has been a reality in NBA2K for a few years now. I never felt handicapped in the previous versions during the single player season mode. Where the player rankings make the difference is at The Park and any other mode using the created player against people who bought their player upgrades. It gets to the point where you can do everything right and be unsuccessful on offense and defense.
