Reports are saying that NASCAR would consider hosting exhibition races in Europe to boost the profile of stock-car racing in the region.

I wonder if this could be followed by any success, considering the European racing stages centers around Formula 1 and touring cars. It would be a great idea though.

Any thoughts?

Seems like the oval would be boring, unless they did course racing.

HA, I was wondering if they did it in the UK if they would have to mess up all their grills.

I'm guessing that NASCAR is hoping that the answer is; Europeans.

I can't get the link to work: are they talking specific countries/tracks, or has is not progressed even that far yet?

Still ovals at Lausitz (Germany) & Rockingham (Britian), sitting basically unused since CART ran there in the early '00s. If they're thinking 'twisties', I could see them putting on a respectable show at places like Silverstone or Monza - or possibly even Hockenheim.

... Now if they run at Spa, I'm absolutely watching that one! :D

Bad idea. Euro's hate Nascar and they'll get flamed on if they do in fact race over there.

I don't think they hate it. They just don't know that much about it. As an European, i can tell you that most of the people i know thinks NASCAR is some retarded sport where you take left turns all day. They just don't care or don't know about NASCAR.

I know that there are at least a handful of NASCAR fans in Europe. Back when I was following Casey Mears, there was a guy from Britain frequently on his website forum board who seemed to be very much into the series: And from what he wrote, I certainly got the feeling that he wasn't alone.
