And with the A's beating Houston in their series the M's had a chance to get to within 2 games with a win.

A loss puts them at just 5 games ahead in the second WC slot.

All they have to do is maintain a .500 record the rest of the way and they’re probably fine. Now I’m not so confident they can which will definitely allow the A’s to be within striking distant.

We all gotta admit is was a fun run with these guys the 1st half- the best run in years for this club. Kinda have a feeling the 2nd half is gonna remind us of the last several years. Pitching is mediocre and offense is so inconsistent that it really doesn't count anymore anyway.

I said this in that other thread like a month ago, but M's fans who have followed the sport more than a decade or two just have to remember '95 for an example of major swings in division standings. While it isn't common for 11 game leads to vanish in the last month of the season, it certainly has happened and if any team is going to have it happen again it just feels like this club can.

A 5 game lead before the all star game means nearly nothing.

It's still more likely than not that the M's can hold on, but as a couple of us have said for most of this season it's a long long year and this team is razor thin for call ups when injuries happen, and they will for sure happen. It's entirely inevitable.

Still prefer the first half of this season to most since at least '02 so it's a start in the right direction. There's that.

I agree, it’s part of baseball and I’ve always known the M’s have been extremely lucky first half of the season. They will hit a few walls.

As for the A’s are playing a tough schedule right now and holding their own. Looking ahead the M’s and A’s will face each other 11 more times starting August 13. It will be exciting race no doubt. You have to pray they don’t collapse.

Think it's gonna take more than adding a decent starter to make things happen for this team. The bats are just too inconsistent.

This game is once again slipping away farther and farther down the toilet of mediocrity that has been the hallmark of this club for the better part of 40 years and I've had my fill for the night.

Got nobody in the farm. Before the start of the season Baseball America has the M’s with the worst farm system. May require trading draft picks even though baseball only allow trading compensatory picks lol.
