Servais just fucking doesn't know how to manage the pitching staff. He just sits there and lets this game slip away.

I don't have a "train wreck" and I'm sorry, but this is the best I can do to describe this game. The guy in the helmet is Scotty and he's thinking "how did this happen?" And Jerry thinks Scotty is just the best. What a bromance those two have going.

Scott left Leake way too long in this game. You can't let this kind of damage keep happening against any team in our division. Servais should learn to handle his pitching staff if he really wants to make a run for a WC slot. You can't be Mr. nice guy and win games like the team needs too.

I hear ya....I really think this team is half ways decent and could have a shot but I just don't think Scott is the manager this team is going to win with. I think many game we have won this season have been won in spite of Servais's management fuck ups.
I am outa here now- good luck to the M's cuz they sure the fuck need it.

Last thing you want is some protracted losing streak going into the break. Can't have that in their heads.

They need to turn this around if they have any chance of coming out hot post all star break.

Before I pull the plug on this clusterfuck of a game, just want to add that Mike Scioscia knows how to use his pitching staff- wish Scotty would take a few lessons from him. Adios amigos

I find myself watching less and less of the recent games. It is just painful especially when they have...a chance. A's won't quit.

The start of the Great Implosion happened with Colorado. Now we go FULL TANK MODE.

And the pitchers are letting it happen.

Welp, fun while it lasted...

pitching has sucked since Z went out
I think overall this is correct although Z hasn't been catching Leake for awhile now so I don't think that impacted yesterday. But I think overall the pitching staff needs Zunino and the offense needs Cano.

Even without Zunino regression from the pitching staff shouldn't be surprising. This staff wasn't supposed to be great and lets be honest, that's what carried this team for a month and a half. This offense needs to pick up the slack and for whatever reason they just cant. Scored over 4 runs once the last 8 games. The approach is shitty more often then not and its finally catching up with them. Either they scored early and don't add on the rest of the game, or they sleepwalk thru the game and scratch across a run or two late. That just simply wont cut it. This kind of skid has been brewing for weeks. If the Orioles and Royals didn't suck it would have been more obvious record wise.

Quote from Jerry Dipoto about his "love" of Scott Servais:

"Part of the reason we are in the position we are in, in July of 2018, is because we’ve won a lot of close games,” Dipoto said. “You don’t win close games unless your manager makes good decisions."

Another way to interpret "close games" is because of the decisions of the manager, we have those close games. It's not Scott who wins those close games, he causes those close games. It's Edwin Diaz who pulls Scott's ass out of those close games and wins those close games IMO.

To me it is like the football stat 'come from behind wins'. If you weren't always losing in the first place, you wouldn't need to always come from behind. Usually it is the same person responsible for both.

I would have no issue trading Leake for something else at this point. You have to ask yourself if you are the Mariners; 'Would he start in a playoff series?'. The answer is 'NO!' so why waste time with him? He wanted to be in AZ so work out a deal with them for bullpen arm or two or prospects.

I don't have any facts to back this up, just recollection. But I seem to recall several times where the bullpen has turned non save situations into save situations
