I'm sure I'll get some hate for this, but IMO, they were really were over-rated. That's not to say they didn't have some great stuff; they did. Regardless of what they did after 1965, their first 3 years, they were a mindless boy band.

Can't believe I forgot to mention the Grateful Dead, they are the most over-rated band in history. They have such a loyal fanbase yet their music sucks. They have no good songs, zero. Well, a few days ago, I was watching a documentary on the Hell's Angels on the History Channel. They said that the HA's were the first big group to bring meth into the US and the first thing they did to distribute their merh was reach an agreement with the GD to do so at their concerts. Now things make a bit more sense.

The friends I have that really are into the Beatles say the music got better when they started doing drugs...go figure.

There was some talent there, but the brand became much larger than the talent....great timing.

I'm not even sure I would classify this as rock, but Toto would be my nominee.

The Beatles. They were the 60's version of the Backstreet Boys.

Journey. Fucking hate song they've ever performed.

The Dead suck schweddy monkey balls. I saw them at Red Rocks in 1978 and it remains to this day the most boring fucking concert I've ever been too. Just awful.
