Apparently Kelly was seriously disliked within the organization, so much so that several employees indicated they would quit if Kelly returned PLUS see the quote below....

Stories like the ones in this CBS report match up with the report that Lurie felt he needed to "take back the team" from Kelly. They also indicate it would have been hard to justify keeping Kelly around. Kelly didn't get fired just because he made some bad personnel moves and the team had a down year. He seemingly got fired because of those downfalls AND because everyone was sick of him.

What an ass he must be and what a mess he left behind. I can't believe any team would seriously consider him ever again for a HC position or any position for that matter.

found it: The Eagles holiday party contributed to Chip Kelly getting fired

Also Brandon Boykin weighed in:
“You can't trick players or pretend to be someone you're not if the results aren't there,”Boykin told the Pittsburgh Tribune. “The guys who were man enough to make a difference and do something about it were axed or (Kelly) acted like there were sour grapes or whatever.”

Boykin didn’t hold any punches when asked to compare Kelly to Mike Tomlin, his current head coach.

“Tomlin treats players like professionals and grown men,” Boykin said, adding that Kelly didn’t respect many of his players. “He acted like he was better and smarter than people at his level, and that's where the respect was lost.”

"He can't relate, and that makes him uncomfortable. He likes total control of everything, and he don’t like to be uncomfortable,” Boykin said in a text message. “Players excel when you let them naturally be who they are, and in my experience that hasn’t been important to him, but you guys have heard this before me.”

Boykin later clarified that he didn’t think Kelly was a racist, but that Kelly had a problem relating to and interacting with a number of players.

Boykin rips Chip Kelly for

It sounds like Chip was very anti-social.. It's hard to have or keep a job with no personable skills. Oh well, some other team will take a chance on him.

Chip has no emotional intelligence. It works when you have demonstrated success, but when you don't it craters quickly and completely. It'll happen at the next place too unless he has a franchise QB that runs his offense perfectly.

Basically he came in here, got rid of all of Andy Reid's awesome offensive players and then poof he was gone.

EGO EGO EGO! If chip was successful he didn't want Reid to get any of the Credit!

Give me an effing break. You guys really support getting rid of a good to maybe great coach because he pissed off a few people at a Christmas Party? I really don't give a ff if no one liked the guy. He was there to coach football.

Lurie got pissed at the guy...probably for good reason, and that compounded with his FA spending habits and a worse than expected decision he made a decision that will likely set this franchise back several years.

huh?

There's no guarantee the next guy is worse than Kelly. They have to make the right hire. That's all.

Lurie is partly at fault himself for giving all personnel power to a HC with no GM track record and very little success at the pro level. When Kelly refused to give in on personnel power it made it easy to fire him.

Yet here is Lurie only 4 months ago adn after working with him for over two years....

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, on coach Chip Kelly, on Sept. 11: “He's an excellent coach in this league, and there’s no question about it. He doesn’t need to prove anything. He’s a builder of a roster, a culture-builder. He’s everything that we all thought when we all interviewed him and more … I watch him relate to players. His door is always open. I’ve never even seen that before. He cares about the people, the players. I am just very proud and have complete respect for him as a person and as a coach.”

Lurie said those things to build up Kellys confidence. A total pep talk. Things went downhill fast after that.

Northeast answered this well already. Don't read too much into those words. Lurie was hopeful at that point. He had invested much into the Chip Kelly Way.

Sorry don't buy it. Lurie decided to go all in on Kelly and only four months ago is out there talking about a what a fine caring coach he is..and you say he was giving him a pep talk? I find it much more likely he is lieing on December 30 than on September 11.

What do you want Lurie to say? I am not sure how anyone can consider Chip a great coach. What has he won?
NOTHING!!! This team has gotten worse every year he was here. I thought he would get one more year but Lurie didn't think so. What Chip was supposed to do he didn't. What more do you need?

Well one way or another the Eagles are back to square one at QB. If they keep Kelly, they can sell Bradford on the opportunity to return to the same system and build on it. Its reasonable to think that Bradford would be at least as good as the 2nd half of the season Bradford we say this year. You know the one that posted a 90+ QB rating in 6 of the last 7 games.

Now there is no reason for Bradford to stay here, and even if he does he will be learning a brand new system along with all the other starters and we can expect all the same growing pains or more that we saw earlier this season.

Maybe the next coach is just fine, but remember that now you have to find a QB as well.

Lurie spoke the total truth in December. He had seen enough and heard enough about Chip. The pep talk in September had no positive effect on chip. When a coach talks to his team before a game he pumps them up
with positive words. When they play like crap they will hear about it! I am beginning to think you are related to Chip!

Well how about being a little more forthright rather than this character assassination that is being fed to the press and you guys seems to be gobbling up happily? Lurie seems to have evolved into another self absorbed billionaire that didn't get his way on the Christmas party and didn't have the same access and control that he had with Howie, so he threw a fit and fired the guy.

Did you watch Lurie's press conference? He didn't look like a guy telling the truth to me. The only question is whether we was lying to protect himself or the more gentlemanly reason of not speaking ill of the recently fired. I am leaning toward the former myself. Howie was getting the same results while spending alot less money. This was about money and control....not results.

About money? You are kidding I hope. It cost the Eagles 13 million dollars to fire Kelly! If you are right then Howie would have to cut the payroll next year by 10 million in order to save the eagles 3.5 million dollars.
You are saying that Lurie did this whole thing in order to lower the payroll. You have twisted logic and you are in denial about Kelly!
