I get that they don't actually show where these people are actually making the moonshine and what not but how are these people still around to make it? I mean it's not like the police can't watch this show and know who the moonshiners are.....

It's a good show BUT it's all reinactments and not by any active moonshiners with the exception of Tim who went legit.

Yeah. I was traveling somewhere and in a hotel and that show came on. I had the same reaction you did. So I looked into it and discovered it is all dramatized.
