I love how smitty attempts to show us the olden players... He tries hard to show how great they are... With Billy Hamilton having some of the best seasons for any speedster...

I am wondering why Frank Thomas is on the bench while lance Berkman is not... I will assume that that is a mistake, and pretend Thomas is in the lineup...

I will base my vote on the Berkman choice, if Smitty chose to have berkman starting over Thomas then I got Ritz to win, if it was an unfixed error then I got smitty winning...

I kind of have to agree with Milk, I thought Smitty's top of the order with Hornsby, Cobb and Ruth was the difference. With the Big Hurt cleaning up. The new lineup is jacked up IMO, because now, those guys can be pitches around more easily. I'd much rather has Hornsby or Cobb leading off, really like Berkman, but agree that Thomas is better, and absolutely hate putting Fielder in between Ruth and Hornsby, just walk Ruth and try and strike out Prince. I originally had a slight lean to Smitty, but with Ritz having a better Rotation and good lefties in the pen to attack that lineup, I gotta go Ritz in 7

The lineup Smitty has submitted is for against right handed pitchers, it is different againstb lefties.

I am a storng believer to keep your best players in the game... I don't platoon... I think bench is supposed to be role players for your team at specific times of the game... But I will always be STARTING my better players..

to extend, problem with platoons, is that they are too scenario dependent, its not just lefties and righties, it is also ground ball pitcher vs flyball pitcher... or strike out pitcher vs control pitcher... Then sometimes you say hell to offense and go strong on defense... Would much rather have one lineup IMO...

I agree with this, especially for this lineup. Example is having Prince bat after Ruth and having Hornsby bat 5 instead of top 3. Prince struck out 116 times per year. Hornsby never struck out 116 times in a season and averaged 49. I think having strikeout guys between great hitters allows you to pitch around great players. I also think it really didn't help that the lineup still had several righty hitters in a row at the bottom. JMO

I think Ritz has better pitching overall, although Smitty's 1-2 might be better. I like Smitty's bullpen quite a bit more.

Overall I like Smitty's bats as well. I think whatever order he puts them in he is putting runners on, and has power to knock in the runs.

I take Smitty to win this one.

I vote myself. I feel my pitchers are better. I like his lineup but also like mine. Both with great bullpens but lean towards smittys.

Regular baseball team platoons are great but for these kind of all-world teams I would agree. Frank Thomas has to be in the lineup. I basically agree with all of UK's analysis here. Fielder 4th and Ritz' better rotation swings the series in his favor IMO. Ritz
