  • Orioles minor league outfielder Henry Urrutia was recently demoted from Triple-A to Double-A and wasn’t happy with the move, writes MASNsports.com’s Roch Kubatko. The O’s would listen to trade offers for the 29-year-old, who received a signing bonus of nearly $800K in July 2012 after defecting from Cuba, but their hope is that he can turn his season around. Last season, Urrutia batted .291/.345/.409 with 10 homers in 505 Triple-A plate appearances and saw some brief time in the Majors, but he’s gotten off to a .245/.347/.304 start in 118 PAs at Triple-A this year. Urrutia hadn’t reported to Double-A Bowie as of yesterday, though he was expected to do so by Friday, Kubatko writes.

Kind of surprising. I just looked at his offensive stats and they're by no means great but definitely not demotion worthy in my opinion. Would it be more for his fielding perhaps or do they have someone they think is ready to come up from Bowie and he was just the unfortunate guy that got demoted?

How would it be beneficial to him to take Kim's spot on the main roster when Kim himself is lucky to play once a week? It'd be better if he stayed down in Norfolk and continued to get the playing time.

well I think yaz is better than rickard and is a lhb . we all know if the o's was willing to eat kim's contract he would be gone already . Garcia is getting beat up pretty bad down on the farm looks like a waste of space last year . ryan is a aaaa player and rickard will be on the same level . tj is a middle lh arm so with the outcomes of these guys are pretty sad .while they brag about the rule v picks . :trash::trash::trash::trash: nothing more .

I'll take your word on Yaz as I haven't seen any minor league games. I definitely think that Kim should've either accepted the demotion or Dan should've just eaten the contract and let Kim go because him playing once a week isn't doing anyone a bit of good. Agree about Flaherty and Rickard. They're both okay if you need a defensive replacement or maybe to give a guy that's banged up a day or two off but in no way should they be getting regular playing time.

After seeing those two last year, I don't know why we didn't just sign Markakis to an extension.

trey 3 aaa 10th for season and walker both homered 7th
What's their plan with Mancini? He appears ready for the show, but there's obviously zero room for him on the current roster. Trade deadline bait?

Not sure if people would've wanted this here or the regular season thread but the Orioles selected RHP Cody Sedlock out of Illinois with their 1st round pick.

Scouting report: Sedlock spent his sophomore season in the Illinois bullpen, along with 2015 first-rounder Tyler Jay, and was touching 96 mph as a long reliever last spring. For an absolutely loaded Bourne Braves club on the Cape, Sedlock stretched out to start and was 90-94 mph for most of the summer. Read the full report (Insider)

Keith Law's Big Board ranking -- No. 18: "Sedlock shows three above-average pitches with a delivery that still has some scouts thinking he'll return to the bullpen." More (Insider)

Well hopefully he can develop into a starter.

Apparently the O's have seen enough and sent Wright down to Norfolk.
