Why is this impossible to find now? Everywhere I look they all have dual cab. I just want a truck that is small enough to use for a commuter, but still be a truck in case I need to move some stuff. The most passengers I will ever have would be 1.

I guess I am wondering if I am a minority on what I am looking for in a truck, or if there is a gap that any truck manufacturer could capitalize on.

The only way I can see it is if one of those companies lands a monstrous fleet contract. Demand is very, very minimal for what you want.

That seems to be the case. Turns out I am not the truck target demographic, and that makes me sad.

Just playing. I would love to have what you are describing as well. I wish we could get a brand new version of this

I would also love it have an updated 4.0 straight 6 possibly a 4x4 and no automatic for me.

I don't know if you've ever sat in the last gen. North American Ford Ranger regular cab. I can tell you it's very cramped behind the wheel. I don't know if you'd consider a full size regular cab with a short box.

I've owned one.
It was tight.

I'd just go the extra cab route. It's all you can get. I have an F150 with it and it's great.
I think you would have to move up to a full size pickup to be able to go without the extra cab route, after doing some research looks like nobody makes a small truck with the small cab anymore.

Like in this thread, maybe they still make these. I think I saw one not long ago on a Ford Dealer lot.

@Mebert
@LvilleSooner finally bought one without the extra cab in this thread. it's at the end.

New Truck time - maybe...

Yeah, a new verso9 of that would be my ideal. My brother got a total version of those and it has the Celica engine in it........

I am thinking extended can, short box might be the closest I can get. I think it would work, but I would need to make sure it is not to long for my garage. think it would be close.

The current GMC Canyon with the extended cab/regular box is 212" overall and the Ranger you can't get in North America is 211" I believe. There is no info as to what the next gen. Ranger that is coming here (next year?) is gonna be like but it should be similar in size.

When single, I bought a Ram 1500 with a single cab and a short bed and the big engine. It costs a lot less than the Dakota (this was probably about 2004) and I wondered why a truck on a real chassis was cheaper than one on a weak car chassis. I remember paying just over $19k for the previous year's model in January and the Dakota was $24k.

Because it was small and light and had a big V8, the thing would have lasted forever. I sold it to my secretary's husband who does stucco. At well over 200k miles, the cement dust had finally rusted it to the point it couldn't be driven anymore.

Anyway, why not just get a 1/2 ton with a standard cab for the same money or less?

Garage space, also I do a lot of driving in the city, so smaller works better for me. I don't need a truck in the traditional sense, I would not use it in a hauling capacity most days.

I think they're the same length though, right? I'm not sure but that's why I got it too. The parking garage at my office at the time wasn't truck friendly. But the short bed and standard cab was within inches of the same length and I could see better to park from higher up.

Find an 80's C10 on Craigslist and sink about 25 grand in it and you'll have a single cab truck with s bench seat better than new

I will have to check that out. If they are it would be a nice solution. Thank you.

It is odd how comfortable I am in my 2001 Explorer, yet I feel cramped whenever I get in one of the '09 - '10 Rangers we have as fleet trucks.
Same dash, wheel, controls, etc...But the Ranger just feels so much smaller.

But used Rangers are everywhere.

Explorer or Escape? The Escape is basically the same thing as the Ranger except it's an SUV instead of a truck. The Explorer is two levels bigger than the Escape.

My wife drive an escape, it is very comfortable for me. I am 6'1" I don't know if it stays comfortable at taller than that.

Ford Explorer - Wikipedia

Later generations were completely different in all respects.

Early generations (1 & 2 - like mine) were built on Ranger chassis and shared many parts, including interior, drivetrain and suspension.
Except for the 302, no Rangers left the factory with a 302.

And if I recall, the Escape was originally built on the Contour platform...Front wheel drive unibody architecture vs rear wheel drive body on frame.
