Report: Tim Drevno resigns from Michigan
We’re told to keep an eye on Vanderbilt as a potential landing spot for Drevno. His son, Zach, enrolled with the program earlier this month. Ed Warriner, hired as an analyst in January, is also expected to slide into the position as offensive line coach with Jim McElwain, recently hired by Florida, assuming the offensive coordinator role in addition to coaching wide receivers.

Drevno has been included at several of Jim Harbaugh’s jobs, including the University of San Diego (offensive coordinator/O-Line), Stanford (tight ends/O-Line), and the San Francisco 49ers (O-Line).

The offense never was consistently better during Drevno’s three-year stint as the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator, while the play from the quarterback and offensive line positions was just atrocious. Michigan had the 69th total offense in the country in 2015, the 58th in 2016 and the 105th in 2017. The passing offense got worse each year under Drevno, as Michigan posted the 53rd, 85th, and 111th passing offenses in ‘15, ‘16 and ‘17, respectively.

This could impact a highly rated OL recruit

Well, this is why I like this board.

You learn things every day that you may not learn on just a team board.

It was interesting to see that the Mich OC had resigned...BUT it was a learning
experience to know that Michigan HAD an Offensive Coordinator.

Y’all shoulda just let Enos be OC. One of those directional Michigan’s he had going smooth offensively when he was the HC in the Mac.

Tim Drevno found a much better job than working for Jim Harbaugh.

Those Jim McElwain offense were FIRE down in Gainsville. Michigan should be in great hands!
Honestly, I don't care who replaces him -- getting him out is important for 2 reasons:

1. He was a terrible recruiter; and MIchigan lost out on some major recruits because of it
2. It means that Harbaugh isn't loyal to his friends to a fault

On top of that McElwain's offenses were fine, if not great, at Alabama and at CSU. Unlike Drevno, who has almost no history of producing a decent offense, McElwain does -- despite what happened at Florida. And for that, I'm OK with it. It could turn out to be an average hire, or it could turn out to be a great hire. Either way, I think it's a much better option than what most fans were thinking we'd have to watch this year -- that being another Drevno offense that could only muster 9 passing TD's the entire season. For those math majors out there, that means Michigan failed to average even one passing touchdown per game.

After watching our offense last year, change (any change) is good. And more importantly, the former OSU line coach we brought in to coach our OL seems like a MASSIVE improvement. Fixing that line is key to our entire offense this year.

Haven’t had a lot of free time to post as of late, but I’m encouraged to see Drevno let go. It shows that if you aren’t working, Harbaugh will make a change. Drevno has been on his staff 13 of the last 14 years.

That being said — Drevno’s failure has more to do with the offensive line not performing, than the offense as a whole. UM has a passing game coordinator and running game coordinator — they both give Harbaugh a play and Harbaugh makes the final call.

So while getting a new offensive coordinator is nice — it will be the coaches who works with positional players, who will help UM the most. WR’s need to work on route running (except for Tarik Black). Offensive Line needs the game plan simplified instead of running multiple schemes, because all that resulted in was confusion and missed blocks. Pick one and perfect it.
And most importantly — they need to find a quality QB or anything they do get better at on offense won’t matter.

Hope all is going good for everyone on the board and you had a good Christmas and new year. I will pop in from time to time before CFB season starts.

Got a lot going on, but I’ll sit down tonight and see if I can work some magic. Won’t be Clarkson level, but I can get something made up.

Florida didn't have a quarterback. Michigan has a half dozen. This will work out well.
Last year Michigan has half a dozen, problem was, none of them were any good.

This is good news, right.
I saw Michigan last year.

If they ever find an offense, they'll take off.
