Guess I stand corrected. I'd say some teams are greatly over-valuing punters, but, obviously, what do I know?

And jokes aside, I agree with you. I'm not thrilled about a punter at 5... and certainly not trading up for one. But I love that we took the best prospect, it was AT 5, and we have a need at the position for TWO reasons (cap + talent).

Seattle has received some crazy hate over the last few years because I think everyone expected a dynasty with like 3 SB easy wins... but end of day they have a lot of talent and starters that are not getting replaced. I like Penny, because he'll start. I like Green, because he'll see reps on passing downs and likely start if 1-2 years of development goes right. I like Dissly because he'll inevitably start when E. Dickson likely goes down with another injury. I also like Dickson, because IMO the Seahawks should cut Ryan right now.

The other picks... outside of Griffin who at least provides a huge boost to team morale and makes our #1/#2 CB care more (not to mention he'd be a 1st-2nd round pick if he had both hands) I'm not as high on.

Guys, this P is a weapon. Probably the bet P prospect in the last 10 years. After our pick there was a run on P's so draft results outweigh opinions of wether a P should be drafted.
Absolute bargain for a 5th to get a P of this caliber.
Secondly, thanks JR for being a solid Seahawk. You were a great punter for us til the end.
Lastly, can't you see Griffin speeding down the gauntlet to level a returner after a booming punt? Big improvement in our PR game.

They must really like him to trade up, they obviously knew he would be gone by the next pick, or had a strong feeling he would have been gone ... If he’s a great kicker, I’m cool with it, field position can decide close games ....

I havent read what everyone has said but to anyone complaining about the pick will make their comments now but the moment he punts a ball and it lands inside the opponents 10 or 5 watch them either cheer or shut up.

I like this pick. Dickson is a stud punter. Anyone watch the Texas Bowl this season. Dude put 10 out of 11 punts inside the 15. I can't remember the last time a punter was named the MVP of a bowl game. Of his 84 punts, only 17 were returned - for a total of 130 yards. That gave him a net of 45.9.

For a team that is all about field position, having a punter who could do this will be invaluable.

Bringing back the 'coffin corner' with some angle kicking.

I grew so tired of watching Ryan try to stop the ball like a golf shot.

It will also be nice to punt from our own 20, and have the other team NOT start at midfield, but that 30 yard NET.

Great Pick.

Option 1) Pick a guy (any position player) that most likely gets cut or makes the practice squad.
Option 2) Pick the Best Punter available, and watch him be a Pro-Bowl Punter.

I like option 2.

It's a solid pick. Changing the dynamics of field position is something this team needed. Cause a 3 and out deep in our territory will give our O a great shot to get some points with the short field position.

I think it’s kind of weird to move up to draft a kicker, but if he’s actually great no problem.

Realizing this is the 5th round and not the 3rd, but remember that time a team took a punter one pick ahead of Russell Wilson? I have a hard time believing that they couldn't have gotten an effective punter in the 7th round (maybe even this guy...)

It was the Jaguars (which makes perfect sense)

Pretty sure the cost for moving up was just one of our late 7th rounders, in which case who cares.

I like this pick because this guy looks like a tremendous punting prospect.

Thanks for mentioning this. I got really fucking sick of the 'bye-bye 3.5 million loser' comments on the weekend.

Assuming he's gone, he did great service for the franchise. Solid citizen, solid locker room guy.

Appreciate all the change of field position, all the directional kicking, all the placing the ball deep as well as anybody.

Revisionist history. Ryan did angled kicking as well as anybody. Did he have a GREAT year last year? Nope. Don't have to rewrite history though.

Stay classy Seattle fans.

I agree Ryan has been a great Hawk. Everyone leaves at some point though, and he's turning 37 this year. May the best man win.

Unless the new guy tears a hammy tying his shoelaces, Ryan IS gone. I even get the mercenary tone of the posts (save some $'s that can be better spent elsewhere. )

But we don't have to tear down the dude on his way out the door.

It seems like the corner kick died with jeff feagles. If ever a punter was going to be in the hall its feagles.

I know we all love Ryan he made some awesome plays for us most memorable the fake field goal kick against the packers for the NFC title game that started our come back to win the game. Now we have to move on and we probably going to have to cut him to create cap space
