Among the biggest surprises of the season so far is that Miami, despite getting only eight starts from Jose Fernandez, is contending in NLE. They've now called up a couple of other young SPs with impressive pedigrees. Should be interesting to see whether these two youngsters can help them stay in the race.

In flurry of moves, Marlins recall top prospect Andrew Heaney; outfielder Christian Yelich placed on DL | MLB.com: News

DeSclafani starts tonight against the Cubs and Heaney will start Thursday against the Mets.

There was a *LOT* of room for improvement for the Marlins offense after last year's debacle of an offense (only two players with significant playing time had an OPS+ north of 100). But the Marlins pitching staff was projected to be one of the better staffs in the NL, which hasn't quite been the case. But not only has the lineup improved, it's been one of the best in the NL so far! 7 of the 8 Marlins regulars have an OPS+ north of 100. Stanton has an OPS+ of 169 and is having an MVP-caliber season so far.

Unfortunately for Stanton, Tulowitzki's putting up mind-boggling numbers at SS so far (.355/.447/.662, 187 OPS+) to go along with his great defense. Tulo's already at 5.2 WAR. McCutchen's also having another great year.

Anyway, can't wait to see them pitch. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see Heaney's debut (Mets/Yanks are blacked out). WPIX never shows Mets games on Thursday nights either.
