Regarding Seagar bunting. His last sac bunt was 2014 and he’s had a total of 5 in his career. You ask him to bunt and I bet he fails and Ks anyway. The question is why is he still batting 5th
Or the question might be why hasn't he worked on or learned how to get a bunt down? Your question about why he is still batting #5 is legit also.

Last night was an all out battle by two teams that are clear playoff contenders. That being said, to me the difference in the game wasn’t the HR but rather the stubbornness of Felix to revert back to the King on that pitch when he is no longer the King. It was a 2-2 count and he had been dealing his curve ball well up to that point. So instead of using his great ability to place a ball with lower velocity and elevated movement he opts to throw a 90mph fastball right down the middle.....AGAIN! The result from that pitch is about as predictable as pitching to Trout at Safeco. I don’t know if that’s on Mel, Zunino, or Felix himself but that call needs to STOP already. He does not have the velocity to throw a fastball right down the middle on a 2-2 count anymore, and for that the outcome falls on Felix IMO. All in all I expected to lose this start with Felix on the mound anyways, but to get such a great outing on his part it’s a bummer that we were as close as we were and couldn’t pull it out. Hopefully Pax can turn it around for us tonight.

It’s not just Seagar to be fair. Bunting is a lost art nowadays as advanced metrics point to it not being the most effective use of an AB. I’d estimate 70ish percent of hitters can’t bunt. I wouldn’t trust anyone on the team besides Gordon or Heredia to lay down a bunt. It’s just the way it is

I believe someone said Z was setup at the spot that was hit so that pitch was called, but we do not know who called for it.

Still, we can't be really putting any of this on Felix. He's well past his prime and went 7 against the most feared batting order in the AL right now and just gave up 2. Really really really can't put any of this on him, or that HR, nor whoever called for a pitch there.

The M's gave them their first run. Flat out gave it to them. On a platter. That's a bigger problem. One we see nearly every game, but get away with against lessor teams. They have to stop with the mental errors in the field. They have to execute better. That's the bottom line.

They also failed to move runners along late when they needed to.

I'm not saying the M's are a bad team. They aren't. They are a solid team, but not a great team right now. Tracking up in the right direction for sure. Improving over last year. Better than the team has been in more than a decade I would say. Just not Boston/NY/Houston kind of great at this time. None of those teams got to where they are in one or two years. Houston came on strong several years ago but took a few years to get up to that level of world champ. The M's will also need time to get there.

As long as they are moving in the right direction and we are seeing better results there really isn't anything to be upset about. But there also is no reason to overreact and start planning for a WS run either.

That’s a good question... Any player should know how to bunt though, that’s baseball 101...

This is what I don't get. Baseball always evolves, the bunt is gone, the hit and run is gone. Yet the shift is here yet going the opposite way is lost by lefties. I know in Tacoma when a dude was in a slump he would work on bunting in BP, it's kind of an ego check..if your bat isn't helping the team you better contribute bunting I'm assuming.

I don't blame Felix or Zunino for that HR ball, I actually thought the fastball was the correct call just it needed to be up in the zone. He'd thrown so many offspeed pitches I think it was the right call just very bad location.

Hell of a lot better start than yesterdays game. Bats are a bit more alive so far.

Hope the Pax man gets back on top of things. Those two plays could really rattle a pitcher.

Time to go find something more productive to do. Looks like this team has ZERO interest in playing competitive ball against a good ball club.

From shutout ball to knocked out of the game in less than an inning.

And he's your team ace... :L

Just too fucking funny!! If it wasn't for your .gif files this game would really be pissing me off, but you keep putting those in there and I can laugh instead of throwing things. LOL Where do you get all those files?

The wheels have really fallen off Paxton and the team. It's Dipoto's fault cuz he was in the booth distracting Mike and Dave. LOL It's about time Scott does something, a few runs too late but at least he did something. I'll bet Jerry came down and told him to pull Paxton. :L  :D :gaah:
