Mariners (2-1) are coming into San Francisco to take on the Giants (2-2) for a two game set after a day off.

Here are the probable pitchers:

4/3/18: Marco Gonzales (5.40 ERA in 36.2 IP) vs. Ty Blach (4.78 ERA in 163.2 IP)

4/4/18: Felix Hernandez (4.36 ERA in 86.2 IP) vs. Johnny Cueto (4.52 ERA in 147.1 IP)

All stats are from 2017. Next series thread I'll begin posting 2018 stats.

Go Mariners!

I am looking forward to seeing Marco pitch. I don't put much into spring training numbers but he did have an excellent spring. I do worry about his ability to get through the lineup 2-3 times, which is the next step for him. If im not mistaken last season he didn't make it past 5 innings.

Should be interesting. Dipoto had to have seen something in Marco (hopefully considering what we gave up). Looking forward to seeing his first start to see what he's got.

Just so you know, we usually create new threads for every game. Everyone is welcome, as long as you go easy on us. :D

We do the same for each series.

It's you guys who need to go easy on us, lol. Longest postseason drought in the big 4 sports.

Looking forward to the insight you guys can give us though.

Can we just try, for 1 series, to not go too overboard when 1 guy strikes out with a guy on 3rd, or 1 mediocre bullpen pitcher allows a tying run?

It doesn't mean the season is over. No, Kyle Seager doesn't get sent to AAA after another slow April.

Maybe use this non-divisional series to take a breath and re-read your post right before you hit "Post Reply?"

Only a suggestion.

I’m not allowing for an excuse or giving him an out, but he was coming off of Tommy John last year so expectations should have been tempered a bit. That being said, he should finally show us what we got for our best prospect at the time. I too am excited to see what he has because if he can prove solid as at least the #4 this team could be on to something.

All I wanna see out of this 2 game series is:

1. a split win 1 lose 1
2. Both Felix and Marco tossing min 5 innings each
3. Our offense tossing up 5+ runs ea game
4. Seager and Healy with a combined 6 base knocks between them before flying out Wed night
5. Zunino taking a few BP hacks and rumored to be in the lineup for MN series
6. Cruz meandering around the dugout without limping

If above SF rotation holds true ... Vogelbach related

You know Danny V sits vs the lefty ( Blach ) tomorrow night.

But with Cueto a righty throwing the April 4 game ... Vogelbach better get this start in the field and lineup. ESPECIALLY if Healy continues to struggle.

If you are not going to play the fucking guy send him to AAA Tacoma so he can get his hot bat going again.

Funny, because so much of these could be applied to the Giants as well. I would love to see:
1. a split
2. Blach going at least 5 innings
3. Our offense scoring at least 2 runs each game
4. Anyone beyond Panik and Posey getting on base regularly
5. Samardzija's rehab going smoothly and returning soon
6. No more injuries

I'm calling it right, Scott Servais has already lost the SF series for the Mariners.

The no more injuries thing applies quite well to the Mariners as well.

Haven't followed the Mariners closely but the Giants have all, so far, only been pitching, but those injuries have taken out our ace, our number 3 starter, our closer, our primary left handed reliever and a Rule 5 draft pick that the team now has to hold on to for a year and pay league minimum while he recovers.

Right? Giants have 3 World Series championships in the last 8 years. The Mariners have 4 playoff appearances ever.

I have no idea what the ballpark in SF is called now, but it is absolutely gorgeous, one of the best in MLB IMO. I'm glad the M's get to play a couple games there this year. Seems like the Giants usually travel to Seattle instead.

My Hot and Not's for this series ...

I am big on Gonzo .... but I am afraid he has a case of the big game jitters and struggles a tad
Felix not near as dominant as Opening day ... but pulls of a W vs Cueto

Hitters

Haniger stays hot as does Cano'

Gordon may steal 4-5 bags off Cueto and his silly pitch antics of having seizures during delivery

Seager continues to struggle

Healy gets things going a bit ... to get off the schnide

We split 1 game each ( win Felix pitched game )

A Tuesday afternoon interleague game on April 3rd is a "big game?"

For a kinda younger kid making his 1st start of the season: on the road - new ball club - made the starting rotation and high expectations ... Yea its a 'BIG' game for him.

I hope I am wrong and he tosses a gem and we shut them out 4-0
