Celtics guard Marcus Smart is more than a defensive menace

With trade rumors swirling I wonder if the Celtics would trade his exceptional defense for exceptional offense. I also wonder if his recent offensive surge is a break through in his third year or just an anomolie.

Ceiling for Marcus?

10 ppg on 37% shooting

he had one good game @ 22 points on 70% shooting

I wouldn't count 9/6/9/14 before that as an offensive surge.

Its funny but since he got picked on for being a terrible FT shooter, 6 weeks later he is shooting FT's at 80% and in that time almost 50% from the field. The dude is just 22, and he holds his opponent to 4% below their average in FG%. We will have a chance tonite to see if the third year advancements are real

He is a quality player who could start for a lot of teams, but he does not have that high a ceiling, IMO. Even a slight improvement on the offensive end will make him an indespensible role player (he already is very valuable), but his skill base will likely always hold him back from being more.

I think he'll be best served in his career as a 6th man, combo guard off the bench. He's a quality player, but he's got fringe starter written all over him.

I wouldnt give up on him unless I could get a lot. He has All Defensive team potential- and has the athleticism to be a good offensive player someday if he works on it. He is only 22 (will be 23 in March).

If you can get something good for him- and make him part of a combo deal to get an All Star level player- then you gotta do it since you have depth in the back court and a real starting back court already with Thomas and Bradley-

but anything less than a really good player- dont trade him....doesnt make snse to me.

who are they talking about that Boston is looking at in trade deals to consider dealing Smart?

Wiggy the rumors are friggin all over the place. Hayward, Boogie, Butler even Griffin. Man what I would do to hear Davis on that list.

I kind of agree with C_Suchi on this. This was the same spot that Avery was in two years ago, problem is Avery always looked like he released and shot correctly. Marcus looks more like a street player than polish

I highly doubt he's ever an all star. He'll last 10+ years as a starter/6th man though

I think that a lot will depend on him. How hard is he willing to work on the deficiencies in his game? To make a comparison to a player from the past...

I could see him as a modern day Michael Cooper (sorry about the Showtime reference @LogicMan ). A player who makes his name on defense, but develops enough offense to where that part of his game has to be respected too.

First guard off the bench.

Not a starter unless it's in the Patrick Beverly role.

The Ce!tics should go all in on Milsap.

Unbelievably, Cousins is gonna reup with the Kings for 200m this Summer.

I think Blake will also take the money in Lob City.

Hayward might work. But, he plays the same position as Crowder.

Butler would be perfect.

The Pelicans have no incentive to trade the Brow unless they get a two All star potential guys and picks for one deal.

* Towns and Wiggins or Lavine ?*....Thibbs wouldn't do it.....Just an example

I mean, he's under contract. So, it's not like he can bolt.

Maybe the Celtics should trade for Rondo back. Like I said Rondo was a product of the big 3. What has Rondo done since except being benched? Smart can be good player but will never be great. I still wouldn't want him. Peace.

I think he'll be a very good 6th man in the league for a long time.
