sucks for the nhl in general but great news for the devils!

think the black knights (horrible name btw) will be stupid enough to take either camalari or zajac off our hands?

who are the 3 d men you would protect?

having the draft next year is perfect for the devils with kinkaid. keep him around and expose him he won't get picked up anyway. then after the draft you let him go and bring in wedgewood as the backup.

All the mock expansion drafts I've read. Have Merril as the Devil to go. I don't see it being a goalie goalie may be one for very few positions that are deep in the expansion draft

personally i would expose greene and hope the team takes him. he is older and has a higher salary then all kids.

severson larrson santini (if he needs protection) would be my choice. hope a team passes on merrill who could still have a bright future.

Who you protect entirely depends on whether or not teams are forced to protect players with NMC or NTC clauses.

Greene, Zajac, and Camm all have those. Also, why the heck would you want them taken off our hands. Camm is our best offensive player atm... Didn't you just say that this team needs to be in the playoffs this year?

If we don't need to protect Camm, Zajac, Greene:

Honestly, we'll get a very clear picture of whether or not Merrill is really worth hanging onto by the end of the season.

I would do the following:

8 Skater, 1 Goalie:
Greene
Larsson
Merrill
Severson
Henrique
Palmieri
Boucher
JJ
Cory

7,3,1:
Henrique
Palmieri
Boucher
Blandisi
Zajac
Camm
JJ

Larsson
Severson
Merrill

Cory

Moving an NHL team to Vegas is stupid. Has the league not seen how the team in Arizona is doing? are they thinking the gambling money/casinos/tourist attraction is going to support this team?

The name is also dumb, although the guy fudning this franchise was a graduate from Army. I thougth I heard the businesses helping fund this team has the name black knight in it. Making this whole thing extremely corporate.

Why not just name them Las Vegas (Whatever casino put up the most money to support them that year)

They already sold something like 12K season tickets, and that number excludes casinos/companies buying tickets. That's 12K individuals. Vegas is the biggest market in the country without a pro sports team.

They would have ben better off putting a team in Portland,Wisconsin or bringing a team back to Quebec imo. If the Raiders move to Vegas that honeymoon may end fast.
After what happened with the Coyotes, you would think they would want to avoid putting teams in the desert again. Oh well, at least they didn't put another team in Atlanta I guess...

i believe it is only NMC that need to be protected. which according to that fanager site no one on the devils after this season has a NMC only clowe which doesn't count.

yeah camalari is our best scorer but honestly i dont trust he can stay healthy. if he was healthy for this past season chances are we are in the playoffs. you want to hinge our playoff chances and possible playoff success on a healthy cam? i don't. if the knights want him which they probably would be my guest besides he is what? 34 years old? hes only going to get hurt more and more.

i want to keep as much youth on this roster as possible.

want to keep smith pelly.

if cam/greene/zajac were left unprotected i really think they would snag camalari

Honestly, biggest thing here is to see how people play this season. Maybe Zajac has his worst year yet, and it's time to try and dump him. Remember, the new team MUST spend quite a bit of cash, so they're not going to be able to just get a bunch of young guys on the cheap and develop them. Maybe Greene really starts to slow down. Lars passed him last year as the #1 dman. Maybe Merrill is more valuable. While it's fun to play the puzzle game on this, it's really, really important to see how players develop/decline.

I for one must say that I'm glad blackwood, Zacha, quenville, etc will all be exempt. I would be really pissed if we were in the shoes of Tampa, Anaheim, or Pittsburgh RE goalies. All three of them need to do something or they are going to loose a goalie they really, really don't want to.

1 thing to keep in mind also is that none of our biggest contracts are Shero guys. He may like or respect Zajac/Greene but he's not linked with those signings. He's probably not as emotionally invested in those players.

Despite his age I'm hesitant to let Greene go. Look how much better the young D are paired with him. Severson was at his best by far when he was with Andy, and Larsson really only improved when paired up with him.

Ideally we won't lose any of them and I agree if it was this upcoming season I'd be hesitant. After this season though with Greene a year older it will be interesting.

By the time this team is competitive again Greene will towards the of his time here just think of Salvador and how he fell off a cliff. This expansion draft is a blessing in disguise. Andy Greene isn't going to get any better but Merrill is still young and still has a ceiling I don't think he hit and I don't know where it is. Give me the youth and the cheaper player for when this team is ready to spend money and compete instead of greene

Don't be surprised if the Devils are competitive next season. Keep in mind that they were on the cusp of the playoffs throughout the season, and you guys were the only team that could shut us out and match us for speed down the stretch of the season...
I was very impressed by Kyle Palmieri, Scott Wedgewood, & Joeseph Blandisi that game. Also, I think John Hynes is an excellent coach, was always a fan of his when he coached the Pens AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre. I was hoping he was going to replace Dan Bylsma instead of Mike Johnston a couple years back.
