Koyanisqatsi.....brilliant.......no words are spoken

The Unbearable Lightness of Being.....

The Halloween Tree......Animation.....may have been for TV only.....Ray Bradbury

One of my all time favorite films is Matewan. John Sayles film about coal miners in the 1910s. Way before its time. Chris Cooper's first big role. James Earl Jones. Great great film

Paths of Glory - Stanley Kubrick in his early days making a film that upset the French so much that they tried to ban it for a while.

Children of Men - Not that well known. One of the best films of the last 30 years. See it immediately

Paths of Glory is great although it's often seen as a "great" movie by many. Powerful WWI battle scenes

Children of Men is also excellent. It did get a good buzz when it first came out. I actually like it better than the book which I had read much earlier.

How about

Forbidden Planet? Great special effects at the time. An interesting story. Walter Pidgeon, Ann Francis and Leslie Nielsen. It definitely could be seen as the father of Star Wars.

Do foreign movies count? Or are we assuming that a big part of the reason they are unknown is because they are foreign and so it's not the same?

I thought that "A Separation" should have won Best Picture in 2011. An incredible movie.

I don't know if it's "unknown" but Unbreakable is a great movie, and is often overshadowed by The Sixth Sense (which I think sucks)
