Ah yes, you are referring to the U$C days.
Does that change the fact that they dominated the conference for 7 years? Let's not pretend that Oregon was not shelling out stupid amounts of cash for "scouting reports".

Um, well when you are buying players houses and cars it does help bring in better recruits which can enhance a team.

And Oregon's not paying $25,000 for Texas "recruiting services"?

This was such an enormous problem the NCAA deemed it fair for Oregon to lose 1 scholarship over 3 years. Terrifying consequences.

Meanwhile USC is still using their sanctions excuse as to why they are not good.

So you are okay with cheating to win, as long as it's small cheating or only if it's Oregon cheating?

Where's Brasky with the Ref meme?

Because this is a team foul. Nutswinging on conference mates before they joined the conference.
Or I just make fun of everyone...

These need to be switched.
Barry was 12-5 vs Tom
11 Conference Championships vs 7
3 NC's vs Zero in that time frame.
And Switzer had 2 undefeated seasons. 1973 and 1974
Oops! I stand corrected: one unbeaten, untied team & one unbeaten, once-tied team. Still only 2.5 Natties since the Sooners didn't sweep the polls one of those years.

1. Larry Kehres (Mount Union), 332-24-3 (.929) with 11 D-3 national titles & 5 runners-up, with 9 undefeated seasons and 8 straight appearances in the D-3 National Championship game, with two separate 3-year title runs.

9. Mel Tjeerdsma (Austin College, Northwest Missouri St.) 242-82-4 (.744), with 3 D-2 titles & 4 runners-up, 1 undefeated season.

12. Frosty Westering (Parsons College, Lea College, Pacific Lutheran) 303-96-7 (.755), 3 NAIA championships, 1 D-3 championship, one unbeaten, once-tied team.

13. John Gagliardi (Carroll College, St. Johns-MN) 489-138-11 (.775), 2 NAIA titles with an unbeaten season prior to the first title, 2 D-3 titles & 1 runner-up, 4 unbeaten, untied seasons & 1 unbeaten, one tie season.

14. Roy Kidd (Eastern Kentucky) 314-124-8 (.713), with 2 1-AA titles, two runners-up & 1 undefeated season.

Seriously???

Yes. Seriously. We were asked to post retired (but still living) coaches who had won a national championship. Nobody said it was limited to FBS coaches.

I had forgotten about Jimmy Johnson & Phil Fulmer. Johnson was very dominant his last few years at Miami, but his .sub-.700 overall winning percentage drops him into the "very good, but not great" ratings for me. I would rate Fulmer up there with Spurrier.

He was #8 on my list. And I would insert Phil Fulmer at #12, which would bump the previous #12 & those below him down one notch each.

And it's too early to list Les Miles since we don't know if he is finished coaching yet.

Dude
We were on probation that year and couldn't be ranked in the Coaches Poll.
If we had, it would have been #1.
