And if the Steelers didn't offer to make him the highest paid RB in the league on a long term contract I might be more sympathetic. But they did. And it's not nearly enough. He gets an offer to be the highest paid RB in the league (maybe ever?) and he acts insulted and won't shut the fuck up about it.

We get it. You want to be on a shit team that is devoting 4X what everyone else is to the position. Well, that's not going to happen here so don't let the door hit you in the ass you stupid shit.

Ugh. Why is this even a topic two days before the playoffs start for us? Why? Because: Bell.

He's missed about 25% of the games the Steelers have paid him for to date.

He's been here since 2013. The Steelers have played in 4 postseasons including this year. He missed two of them (so far).

And the one year he played in the postseason so far, he got a groin injury early against NE. Barely played.

He's a tremendous player, but he's not on the field enough, and not on the field in crucial playoff situations to dedicate so much of the salary cap to.

I'd rather have a lesser player, getting paid less, who will be there for the team.

I wouldn't franchise him...I'd leave the same deal on the table...let him shop it and if some stupid front office wants to give him $15 mil per on a long term deal...have at it.

I would like to see Connor paired up with a RB like Sony Michele if Bell is gone.

You really think we cant afford to pay him an extra $3-$4 mill a year to keep him around? Do we really feel confident in James Conner right now to just let Bell walk? Surgery to repair a sprained knee will affect Conner in a negative way. I can't say that I'm okay with our RB situation without Bell. We go to the draft and it's a hit or miss on RBs this year. Two really good ones and they will be gone way before we pick. And forget going to Free Agency. Only FA RB I'd sign is Carlos Hyde and he didn't even break 1,000 rushing yards this year and he's not really a receiving back so we'd have to replace Bell's receptions and the only WRs I trust right now are AB and JuJu.

3 Pro Bowls in the last 4 years and the only reason it isn't 4 is because he was injured and only played 6 games in 2015.
When he went down in the AFC title game, we were completely done in offense.

    2017 stats:
    3rd in yards
    3rd in rushing TDs
    6th in receiving/rushing TDs
    3rd in yards per game
    2nd in all-purpose yards

I mean come on now. Great player that's better to have on your team than try to play defense against. Pittsburgh is in the same situation as Washington is with Kirk Cousins, you need the man so pay the man.

After taking a deep breath I think the reporter was going for click bait during a quiet week. You can only write about the Jags first win and speculate how it translates to the playoff so many times.

Bell should make himself the head and shoulders MVP of these playoffs, if he wants paid that much. If and it's a BIG if, he can do that the Steelers would probably bump up their offer some or a lot.

Wouldn't happen this year due to the emergence of JuJu. Connor came back and played at a high level from cancer and a torn knee, a sprain is nothing to him. Tomlin even said so! Have you never seen Connor play??? He's a receiving back.

I have seen him play and he's a bruiser but you can't say he's a receiving back in the NFL. He's had 1 target and didn't catch it. He's rushed the ball 32 times in the NFL. I'm not confident in him right now to be our starting RB. Especially after knee surgery. Not at all, not one bit. Two knee surgeries in two years. Confidence is the furthest thing that I have right now in James Conner.

    I highly doubt that....
Ten years ago everyone knew who the Steelers were.....Ten years ago only reason anyone knew who the seachickens were is because we kicked their ass and the still cry about it.

Just looking at his stats, sure, pay him what ever he wants, but having an AB, a very expensive OL, and a future HOFer @ QB helps make those stats possible. If he's on CLE sure, he's still put up stats but he won't have the same kind of impact he's having in PIT surrounded by other good talent.

So...the stats are nice, but I'm discounting that to a degree.

Life w/o Bell...you don't replace a Bell...he's that good, but you do move on. I'm not comfortable with Connor being the primary RB either...but they have sometime to shift gears in draft priority. A supplemental RB is all they really need to go with Connor to have solid production from the RB position.

I said all that to say this, I want Bell back, but when the team offers a player the highest contract at that position...you really have to say they made a good faith effort.

Top of the market is top the market. Bell wants a new top of the market. I just don't think it makes good business sense to pay any player, at any position $3 to 4 mil per season more than the current top contract at that position.

We have a great line, and the best OL coach in the league.

I'm fine rolling with Conner and a FA or draft pick next year.

I don't want to pay Bell 15 a year. I don't want to pay him 12 a year, or even 8 at this point.

I'm talking about the receiving ability he displayed in college. He has a very limited sample size in the NFL. He didn't hurt his knee last year. So, no 2 surgeries in 2 years. If this is your position, Bell has been hurt just as much (back-to-back knee surgeries and the groin last year) or more than Connor has. Yet, that hasn't affected your confidence in Bell or your desire to overpay him. And, I'm not even counting the suspensions.

The coaches seem to have every confidence that Connor will be fine and back by camp, so why shouldn't we???

The Steelers have always operated (at least since 1969) with what makes good business sense. They'll pay what they think a player is worth and as soon as that player prices themselves at more than the Steelers think they're worth, they waste no time showing them the door. There are are countless examples but to just site one from the 80's and a more recent one, Franco and Fanica. There are a couple that have proven they were worth what they wanted, Woodson for one but for the most part the Steelers seem to make the right call in these situations. We'll see though.

I have no problem with Bell refusing to play on the tag again. I’ve made my peace with him not being in Pittsburgh next year. He’s a selfish player and this team will be fine without him. Better, no, but just fine! My problem resides in his timing for BS comments like this. The reporter hung out that juicy question like a worm on a hook and Bell’s dumbass was happy to swallow that shit clear down to the belly with no remorse. Any consummate professional would have said something like: “I don’t want to talk about that right now, I’m focused on what’s in front of me.” But no... not this immature & selfish prick.

I've always hoped the Steelers would overpay him. Dropping that kind of dime on a running back can really limit what can be done with the rest of the team - Particularly a team with several all-pros.

Anyway, Bell is likely past the half-way mark of his career (if you assume 10 years is very optimistic for a back). I'd tag him again.

Bell's picking the wrong franchise to get into a pissing contest with. I have nothing but respect for the Steelers organization & the Rooney family. I will trust their judgement over Bell's big mouth.

    So let's sum this up.......

Bell, although very talented, is a scumbag.....plain and simply.
Now before some of you ladies get your garter all twisted.....we want a Super Bowl.....yes????
We are 2 games from another Super Bowl appearance, two games to teams we have lost to this season.
And this Fuckin douche canoe decides to drop this bomb in our locker room.

Real class act this asshole is. Jacksonville who spanked our assess, and the Cheatriots, whom pretty much own us, are enough of a distraction. But Butt fuck Bell felt the need for more attention and a distraction in our locker room.

He's had how many knee injuries???? Been sidelined for drug related suspensions, twice. And let's not forget his Shit at the beginning of the year. It's well beyond time for him to get the fuck out of Pittsburgh......

Hey Bell I got a rap song for ya fucker........

Get the f-f-f-fuck out of the Burg.....
    15 mil, I wouldn't give you 15 bucks
    And I give 0 fucks
You Peter pulling, pot smoking prick.....
    Go suck a fat dick!!!!!

Devonta Freeman has a 5-year $41.25 mil contract. He's the highest paid RB in the league right now and he rushed for under 900 yards and, 36 rec, 317 yards. That's a little over $8 mil a year for a guy that barely put up 1,000 rushing yards, splits carries with another RB and is the 4th receiving option on the team. All the while, Le'Veon is hitting over 1,200 yards and is the 2nd option as a receiver. Le'Veon Bell is worth $13-$15 mil a year.

It does make sense to pay a player that much if that player, like you say, is irreplaceable. As of right now, James Conner is not a good option as starting RB and that's the guy we NEED to be comfortable with as the starter if we don't pay Le'Veon and let him test the waters. I think letting Bell go is a huge mistake that we will pay for. That shows the other high performing players in that locker room that we don't care how good you are, we aren't willing to pay you more than what others are making even if you're doing WAY better than those other players are and I'm saying this now...when Antonio's contract is up, he will remember how these contract talks went down. He has an out in 2020 or he could be a FA in 2022. He will remember how hard it was for the best RB in the league to get his own team to keep him. This situation molds contract negotiations in the future.

He tore his ACL or MCL in 2015 and needed surgery to repair that. 2015, surgery. 2017, surgery. 2 surgeries in 2 years.

Le'Veon has had 1 surgery to repair his MCL and another on his groin. So Bell has only has 1 knee surgery. He had a foot sprain in 2013 that didn't require surgery, no injury in 2014, MCL tear in 2015 that required surgery and a groin injury last year that required surgery. Yet with all that, he rushed for nearly 1300 yards and caught the ball 85 times. He's proven he can get the job done hence why I am more than comfortable paying him to keep him.

The coaches seem confident in Landry Jones being the successor to the helm after Ben retires, so we should just be fine with that too right?

Are you that confident in a guy who's just has his 2nd knee surgery to be able to match Le'Veon's worst season which was 1268 rushing yards, 7 rushing TDs, 75 receptions, 616 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs? James Conner was barely a receiving RB in college. 21 rec for 302 yards isn't gonna cut it seeing what letting walk away from us.
