On a night like tonight after seeing a great carry a team on his shoulders only to come up far short against an All-Star stacked power team. Let's all remember the greatness that was/is Dirk Nowitzki. And after all these years where is he now? Still in Dallas, where he started his career.

Technically, he started his career in Milwaukee (or was it Minnesota?).

I could think of at least one more poster that's not going to be too fond of this thread. He's in my current signature below...

Probably the best and classiest the game has ever seen. Zero off court problems, completely loyal to his team/owner/family and a true humanitarian.

He'll be missed

Damn you are obsessed.

Not sure if I should be flattered, or get a restraining order.

He didn't beat the Heat team. The Dallas Mavericks did.

Basketball is not an individual sport.

Yes, Miami had more headlining talent, but let's not pretend that the Mavericks were Dirk and a caste of nobodies.

They had Jason Terry who shot lights out and averaged 18 a game, post prime HOF PG Jason Kidd, post prime 4 time all star Shawn Marion and Tyson Chandler who was one of the best centers in the game at the time.

They were also coached by Rick Carlilse who devised a brilliant game plan, and they beat LA and OKC in route to the Finals.

That Dallas team doesn't score high on lists of all time great teams by any stretch, but they had a very good and very worthy team. Dirk was not a one man show.

Dont forget Dirk usually lost early.
2011 was more of a fluke outlier in his 20 year career of very short playoff runs.

Missed the playoffs 5 times
Lost in the first round 8 times
Lost in the 2nd round 4 times, (all were 4-1 series)

Dallas was the poster child for the standard talk radio cliche of "going fishing" or "hitting the golf course in may".
Only 3 time in 20 tries, did Dallas have anything but a short stay or miss the playoffs altogether.

His win in 2011 was countered a bit by losing in 2006 as a heavy favorite and a 2-0 lead.
I have nothing against Dirk, but he helps reinforce the notion of needing help in the modern era.

We expect Lebron to somehow stay put, but looking at the nonstop failures of Dirk, you can see how that is unfeasible.
