This is very realistic...

Right now they have 8 guys on the books (not counting player options or qualifying offers) for a total of $77,907,985.

The first thing they need to happen is Green and Gay to decline their player options. Which could be pretty easy. Green 10M and Gay 8.82M

Then they need to trade Mills (11.57) and Gasol (16.8M) taking back not much salary at all, preferably none. If they can do this they now have a cap of $49,536,556.

You sign Lebron at $35M and give a qualifying offer to Anderson (3,227,556). Their cap is now at 87,764,112.

Now you have Green and Gay being the only question marks, you can only sign one with their original player options but knowing Green I say he would take less. If he took around $5 or both Gay and Green took $3M less then they would be under the cap.

The hardest part in this whole thing is trading the Gasol and Mills salaries imo

Idk. Lebron doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would fit in around Texans. He could trade his hair paint in for a cowboy hat tho.

Still think it’s Cleveland or LA

Green and Gay will have cap holds even if they decline their player options. If the Spurs renonuce them to sign Lebron, they can't go over the cap to re-sign them. If you're renouncing cap holds, you also lose Bird rights on Parker and Anderson (among others).

I think the more likely option for Gay and Green will be that they need to be dealt. Gay may opt out because he's probably one of the two who could possibly command a little more on the open market. Danny Green's a role player who had a down year last year. He's not likely to command that same salary and asking a role player to take less, when they haven't made significant money in their career is hard. Asking Klay who will make 30M to take a 5M pay cut versus a guy like Green who's making 10 to take a 5M pay cut is just wrong.

But I do believe the Spurs will eventually emerge as a leading candidate for Bron.

Here's the wildcard for me though: What will Kawhi think of this situation? Everyone is assuming he's just going to jump back on board if Lebron joins the team. But a lot of the turmoil they had this year surrounded with Kawhi's treatment by the organization and also the fact that he wasn't getting recognized as a superstar with his shoe contracts. If Lebron comes, Kawhi takes an immediate back seat. Will Kawhi be ok with this or would it have a Kyrie effect?
