per twitter and his agent, LaFell has asked for, and will be granted, his release.

Odd man out. They needed to cut him or cut one of the young guys. He's not productive enough to last.... But I will say this is very un-Bengal like. You know how much Marvin loves rolling out his vet players.

I am honestly shell shocked. I can't believe they are rolling with the young guys. I mean, they literally have NO ONE but Green and Boyd who have done anything in the NFL yet. Boyd looked like a promising rookie, fell on hard times last year and couldn't even crack the starting lineup or find his way to the field until the last 4 weeks or so. I know he is having a good camp, but seriously, lacking serious depth at experience in WR group.

Ross 2nd year, no catches
Malone 2nd year, 6 catches
Erickson 3rd year, no sure how many catches, but he is probably the best of all these guys even though he is considered a specialist.
Everyone else, rookies with 0 catches.

I commend them for doing what needed to be done, but now that it is done, I am actually worried a little bit about the WR core. lol

You can guarantee a big chunk of that is the fact that they are hoping Eifert stays healthy all year, and the use of the RB's a bit more out of the backfield (I hope).

It needed to happen. The only chance the offense has at being efficient is for these young guys (Boyd, Ross, Malone, Mixon) to contribute. Only way that happens is to get them reps. We all know the offensive line is gonna struggle, despite what beat writers will tell you.

Releasing LaFell clears the way to get these guys on the field and involved in the passing game. His veteran presence has been overstated anyways.

Besides, pretty sure AJ is the leader of that group. You might have heard of him. He’s pretty good from what I hear. Eifert is also supposedly healthy. It’ll be nice to have a red zone weapon for the 5 games he lasts.

I will never believe Eifert is healthy until he makes it through the whole season unbroken.

Well, that is our receiving core then, barring some major shocking news:

Green
Boyd
Ross
Erickson
Malone
Core
Tate

This is the same organization who told their fans that Armon Binns was good enough to be the #2 receiver.

and most fans believed them.

ticket sales is the end game.
every year a new hope is given.

Green - #1, hopefully not aging too quick
Boyd - athletic match ups, slot
Ross - deep threat
Erickson - part time #2 and mostly slot receiver
Malone - supposedly can be the #2
Core - apparently ahead of most of these guys on the depth chart at the moment, so maybe #2 for now.
Tate - there are other college free agents still with us like Tate, I guess you're saying he is better, I take your word for it.

Don't take my word for it on Tate. I am only basing my projection on Hobson's take of mini-camp and training camp. So the opinion is tainted beyond all hell.

yea, I wouldn't put it past hobson to just make it up as he goes along. any of the college free agents could be working his ass off and he wouldn't notice.

If AJ Green gets hurt, this passing game could be historically bad. It will be like the year we rolled out rookies Peter Warrick and Ron Dugans.

Don't get me wrong - LaFell was not needed. And I do think some of the young guys have promise (particularly Boyd and maybe even Ross). But given that Eifert will undoubtedly be injured, it's asking a lot of young guys if their leader goes down.

Yes, but you could probably say that about a lot of teams with certain players, QB's especially.

But, hey...we still have Eifert!
