As bad as the last two losses were, I think his real undoing was the way the other teams are shitting the bed. U-23 didn't qualify for the Olympics, U-20 team didn't win a game in their last tournament, U-19 team got bounced from the COTIF tournament in the group stage.

Klinsmann was supposed to develop the younger talent, and the federation wasn't seeing the results in wins on the field.

Technical Director is the position overseeing the federation's development programs.

Klinsmann had (and just lost) both jobs. They're not necessarily one and the same. Klinsy didn't even have the technical director hat at first.

Nobody in the USA knows soccer. That's the only reason I can see canning klinsmann for arena. We will never be a world power in men's soccer. We just don't have the programs other countries do and have no idea how to shape our program like other countries.

They are so fucking stupid if they bring back Arena. Put all soccer strategy aside and just look at the basics. You had him once, it didn't work, and now you have an opening where you want to progress into the future. Why the hell would you fill that role with someone you already had? I don't really know who would be best but I can tell you who it isn't. It's not Bruce Arena

My gut says that if they do bring back Arena, it's really more as a placeholder to get through this cycle and to try to make sure we qualify for 2018. After Russia, they'll search for a longer-term solution.

It sort of makes sense in a stop-gap fashion, but they'd better hire someone else to be the technical director if this is the route they go.

The US soccer media is garbage. Like all of them love this move and are kissing Arena's ass. But if you look online at the fan response, it is OVERWHELMINGLY against Arena. This is just dumb all around. Even the stopgap thing doesn't make sense. Everyone pretty much agrees that we will qualify for the WC anyway so why need a stop gap? Hire a new guy now so he has plenty of time to establish himself to build to the WC and beyond. This reeks of MLS power players influencing US Soccer for MLS's own gain rather than helping US Soccer get better.

We were one bad result in September from potentially not even making the Hex. I don't think WC qualification is the sure thing that some of you are touting.
