You read that title right. The great minds on the Idaho State Board Of Education have banned drinking at on-campus locations for the three state schools that sponsor football. "Safety" was cited as a reason to uphold the ruling.

State Board denies request for alcohol at all Idaho college football games

Vandals football home games going (mostly) dry

Idaho state board says no to alcohol at college football tailgates

Seems idiotic right? Drinking is commonplace at tailgating events at ANY college or professional football game at any stadium in the country. It's half the experience for most fans and may be the majority of it for others. Why ban it? Well, the simple answer is that the people sitting on the Idaho SBOE are small-minded dullards who don't understand college football and predominantly subscribe to a certain religious belief that ( among other things) demonizes alcohol and requires its members to wear magic underwear.

This really is a uniquely Idaho problem. More specifically, it's a Boise problem. That's the only conclusion that can be made here. Mormonism is rampant in Utah, but there are no outright bans on alcohol in that state. There are a bunch of bullshit restrictions, but nothing like this. In Utah they're not stupid enough to ban alcohol from tailgating events. You can drink without issue in the parking lot on gameday at the University of Utah.

No, this Idaho SBOE ban is only partly a result of the Mormon belief system. That absurd religious doctrine combined with the over-inflated sense of self-importance and arrogance you'll find from the people and politicians in Boise is what makes this dangerous.

There's this mindset down in Ada county that everything of importance that happens in the state has to happen in Boise. Nothing outside the treasure valley matters and if you live north of McCall....well their attitude is basically "fuck you". The mental midgets on the SBOE are no different than any of the other self-righteous, self-serving jackasses in southern Idaho looking to push their bullshit on the rest of the state. These retards just happen to have more power than the rest.

It's really sad when you get down to it. At least the Mormons trying to police the morality of the populace in Utah have some sort of common sense. Their politicians know that funding things like roads and education are important. Idaho can't even manage to get somewhat reasonable people in power though. Instead, the Gem State gets stuck with with the special needs politicians.

Idaho is consistently ranked near the bottom in education and the money the state puts towards the public university system is a joke when compared to states of similar size. Idaho high school graduation rates are abysmal and those students who do graduate continue their education at a rate that ranks last nationally. Why aren't these SBOE imbeciles focusing on these problems? I guess that's just not as important as making sure people can carry loaded weapons on campus or banning grown men and women from drinking alcohol at tailgating events. Good job you fucking clowns. The youth in Idaho continue to suffer from the shitty education system, but at least they don't have to witness any ne'er do wells drinking at a football game. And at least they're "safe" knowing that Billy Bob sitting next to them in class has his loaded 9mm ready to go in case he gets too startled by a suspicious brown person in the front row.

You would think that the SBOE would face some backlash due to their decision affecting three different schools. You'd think. But recall that Idaho State is in Pocatello where the vast majority of the population are Mormon. They don't care. In Boise it's only the plurality of citizens that are Mormon, but they have designated zones just outside the main parking lot where alcohol has always been allowed. They'll still be drinking. They have a deal with the Boise PD on this matter and you can bet your ass the enforcement in the stadium parking lot is probably going to be minimal.

That leaves Moscow. Or, as I like to call it, the place that the SBOE was really targeting with this ruling. There are no real options to tailgate other than the Kibbie Dome parking lot in Moscow. If enforced, this ruling would kill the pre-game environment for U of I fans. But as far as they're concerned in Boise, people in Moscow are all "nasty, inebriated" heathens. Fuck them right?

The SBOE members won't lose any sleep over this though. The decision will likely only affect fans in Moscow so the board itself will see little backlash in Boise. They wouldn't make this decision if it was going to cause any big issues for them in the "center of the universe". It's sad. If being chronically stupid wasn't bad enough, these SBOE members are also huge cowards.

Luckily I don't live in Idaho anymore and won't have to deal with this shit. But if I did, I'd be nervous about the direction in which the state was heading. Rulings like this being made by over-controlling scumbags with IQs lower than than room temperature sets a bad precedent.

Of course, I don't know how strictly this is going to be enforced. I'd imagine that the SBOE would have to provide funding to help police this and I don't think the U of I or Moscow PD have any intention of complying with this rule. Hopefully this doesn't end up being a huge issue, but the thought of this ban actually being instituted by the SBOE is absolutely infuriating and truly pathetic.

I'll still be at the home opener so I'll see how this goes. If it's bad I may not attend another home game for the rest of the year. I mean, how the hell am I supposed to watch the Vandals play without being completely hammered?

It'll be like being a teenager again.

Illegal = more fun.

You may be onto something here. This is a big reason why lately I've been so into public masturbation.

Just because of the proximity to Montana, Idahoans are much more likely to engage in beastiality than ince$t. As for me? Well, I already revealed my not so secret choice of sexual perversion.

BREAKING: WSU to expand beer sales in Martin

"WASHINGTON STATE will expand alcohol sales in Martin Stadium this season, offering beer at the general concessions level at football home games, Cougfan.com has confirmed through multiple sources with knowledge of the process. Sales are expected to generate net revenue of $1 million this football season."

Good thing Idaho just banned alcohol sales. WSU continues to grow and expand while not being inconvenienced by retarded SBOE members. Must be nice to be a Coug fan.

Just imagine 2 years from now.

WSU with its high scoring offense is contending for a PAC-12 North title against Oregon, Washington, whomever. The tailgating is in full swing with tons of booze and packed parking lots full of fans.

8 miles away Idaho's dry campus hosts "regional rival" Sacramento State in a contest that will decide 5th place in the Big Sky. 4,000 fans pack the Kibbie Dome.

I wonder what game most people are going to want to see?

By the way, President Chuck Staben is not in attendance. Instead he will watch the Idaho game on the Big Sky's shitty live stream from his home in Boise for about an hour before heading over to the Boise State game in time to enjoy their pre-game festivities in designated tailgating areas right next to campus before watching them compete for a MWC title again.

Good times ahead.

Opinion piece from the Lewiston Morning Tribune:

"If hooliganism had invaded home football games at Idaho's public institutions of higher learning, you might better understand the State Board of Education's reticence toward the imbibing of intoxicants at these events.

And if the state board members themselves embraced a blanket ban on booze at all places, on all occasions and for everyone, you could at least recognize a coherent policy.

Instead, confusion reigns.

Beginning in June, the board voted 7-1 to end a one-year-old pilot project allowing the University of Idaho and Boise State University to sell alcohol at home games. At both the Huddle at BSU's Albertson Stadium and the Fan Zone at the UI's Kibbie Dome, fans who purchased a general admission ticket and were at least 21 could buy a beer - until the state board ended it.

The one hold-out against that vote, former Idaho National Laboratory deputy director David Hill of Boise, asked why the state board was in such a hurry to act before more evidence was in.

Left in place, however, was a rather elitist notion. While the casual fan could no longer purchase a drink, the state board continued a long-standing policy of selling booze to people who can afford a season ticket and invest in suite seats or have an in with corporate sponsors.

For the people enjoying BSU's Stueckle Sky Center or the UI's Litehouse Center and Bud and June Ford Club room, that was good news. But for the people enjoying tailgating parties out in the parking lot, more bad news was to come. Last week, on a 4-4 tied vote, the state board effectively nixed alcohol at those venues as well.

Curious, isn't it? The idea of allowing a university to control where booze is sold - and who can purchase it - had only one state board member behind it.

A comparative free-for-all at tailgating parties got four state board members' support.

But what would you expect? Look at the way Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has filled that board. Otter gets to pick seven of the eight state board members. State schools Superintendent Sherri Ybarra holds the eighth seat by virtue of her elective office rather than gubernatorial appointment.

Thanks to Otter, no one on that board lives on the Palouse - or even north central Idaho. The governor chose to replace Bill Goesling of Moscow with Albertsons executive Andrew Scoggin of Boise. So for the first time in 25 years, there is no Latah County voice on that panel.

Someone living in Moscow or its vicinity these past years would better understand the region's prevailing attitude toward alcohol. He'd also have more than a passing awareness of the proactive steps the UI has taken to curb excessive drinking, especially by students who are underage.

In fact, Otter has named only two graduates of Idaho's public colleges and universities to set policy for those institutions. Emma Atchley of Ashton earned a bachelor's degree from the UI and a master's degree from Claremont Graduate School in California. Linda Clark of Meridian earned her bachelor's degree from BSU, a master's from the UI and a doctorate from the University of San Francisco.

Of the remaining five Otter appointees who attended out-of-state schools, three are products of Utah institutions. Members Debbie Critchfield of Oakley and Scoggin graduated from the Mormon church-owned Brigham Young University at Provo, Utah. Scoggin also earned his law degree at BYU. Richard Westerberg of Preston attended state schools in Utah. Hill earned his bachelor's at Imperial College, London University and completed an MBA at the University of Chicago. Don Soltman of Twin Lakes earned his bachelor's at the U.S. Air Force Academy and his master's from Baylor University in Texas. Ybarra is a graduate of West Liberty State College in West Virginia. She has completed a master's and an educational specialist degree from the UI - where she is also pursuing a doctorate.

With Critchfield, Scoggin and Westerberg casting a solid three votes against alcohol on campus, all they need is one ally. They found it in Clark. Atchley, Hill, Soltman and Ybarra voted to continue drinking at tailgating parties. No wonder the state board has no thought-out drinking policy. These people are voting their values. - M.T."

Fucking nailed it.
