Because Dexter Fowler is the epitome of defensive excellence.

I'd definatly rather have Fowler roaming the outfield than Schwarber, and you think it should be the other way around, you need to check yourself in for testing.

being better than Schwarber defensively isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

The Cubs gave away too much talent in my opinion. They already have a decent starting rotation.

Disagree. Arrieta/Lester have been meh, Lackey/Hendricks are hurt (and the former was god awful when he was on the mound), Montgomery/Anderson have been crap and Butler can't even reliably go 5+. It's not the worst rotation in the NL by any means, but there's certainly room for improvement. The offense has been a pretty big disappointment this season as well, though at least they've shown reason to be optimistic (105 wRC+ over the last 30 days).

They still gave away too much good young talent in my opinion. This seems like a panic trade.

Maybe so, but they wisely realized its such a winnable division, one they will probably win because of this move

they gave up two very good prospects, but pitching prospects are generally very risky. And again, the Cubs outfield looks to be pretty crowded for the next few years.

They probably would win their division without making this trade. I believe they are in panic mode.

You should be embarrassed they gave up any runs to the Red Sox.

You should also be embarrassed for posting this in a thread that has nothing to do with Yankees-Red Sox.

It seems that management lacks confidence in the team.

Would you have confidence in Mike Montgomery, Eddie Butler, Brett Anderson's corpse, or John Lackey?

They're getting a very good starting pitcher that's under control through 2020. The Cubs aren't building for the future, they're looking to win now and over the next few years. Quintana gives them a better chance to do so.

Im embarrassed they let Betts beat them, with this lineup, he should hear "4 balls" every AB

Get back to me when the Cubs fail to win their division.

Well coming off a World Series victory and now having the record they currently have.... Most GMs with open pockets would try... But I will agree seems like they gave up a lot for him... But what did you expect after a trade like Sale's... Price tag for Quintana would be very steep
