Joe Haden on the trade block; any scenario where we would want him?

Browns rumored to have Joe Haden on the trade block

It would be sick to have Haden and Sherman as our corners but obviously we can't afford to pick up his contract as is. If Haden were willing to take a massive pay cut to come here would you even want to pull the trigger on him? It would likely cost a decent draft pick and could mess with team chemistry but our window won't be open forever.

I'm sure a lot of contending teams would love to have Joe Haden...but keep this in mind...he hasn't played like Joe Haden, the pro bowler for 2 seasons. I'm sure he can still play, but is he still that shut down type guy that you're paying for?

That's the 64,000 question.

There's a reason they want to trade him.

if Haden weren't worth his contract then they would simply cut him and be done with it. It isn't like they're in contention anyways and they could save a ton of cap space.

If they cut Haden this year it will cost then 7 million dollars. If they cut him next year it will cost them 3 million dollars. Cutting him means they have one fewer experienced players.

and potentially a better draft pick :noidea:

does dropping Haden now cost them 7 mil next year or 7 mil this year and 0 next year? All I'm saying is Haden is still has value and as a #2 corner in Seattle with Cam and Thomas behind him, he could increase his value.

Even if we assume that he would take a massive pay cut for a 1 year deal for us, I'm still not completely sold that we pull the trigger on a deal. Would be interesting though.

He is not a true need. Let some other team pay too much.
BTW, what are our real needs? I like a game changing DT, but teams don't give those guys up unless you are Detroit.
Of course, improvement along the OL would be great. Maybe we orchestrate a trade for an OT by sending one of our excesses at RB, WR, or DB???
Wishful thinking...

it's like i have been trying to beat into snuggy. If we try to get a all pro OT (like snuggy is suggesting) there gonna want more than a Exxcess player, There gonna want someone like Bubba, KJ, Cliff, Russ, Doug, Jimmy, Renisance Mike.

That will give people something else to whine about.

and the circle of life continues

Is T Cameron Erving an All-Pro?

I know Joe Thomas would be the desired guy, but Erving is more realistic. A former 1st round pick that is still on his rookie contract, and only $1.3 against the cap this year & $1.7 next year. The Browns haven't found a home for him, but was trying him out at RT this preseason along with guard.

A young lineman with 1st round physical attributes? That's the one you go after, not the one that'll clean you out.

Now I consider Haden. We need to shore up the other cb spot. Lane does a above average job but we need better if we are to reach our goal.

Excatly but approach with caution. They might want alot for him

LT is the most important position outside qb and pass rusher. If it costs us on defense thats fine, we draft much better on that side of the ball anyways.

Have to protect wilson as he ages and slows down. Its 100% the top priority

So Erving goes to KC for a 5th rounder. That should be a no brainer, wish we landed him.
