I think people need to remember that commentators probably seem boring or overly obvious when they drone on and on, but it's for a purpose. We hear them talking about how a WR is going to need to get better separation or some other little thing like that and we go "well , duh. Tell me something I don't know". But the comments aren't really meant for the die hard football fan like us. We already know the intricacies of the game and we know why, how, what the teams are doing from play to play. Buck and Aikman and the rest of them aren't explaining the game to us, they are explaining it to new fans, casual fans, young fans, foreign fans, non-fans, and anyone else who may have switched to that channel for a moment.


The fact that you find some of the announcers lame probably just means you have a better than average understanding of football than most. The game (even the obvious stuff) still needs to be explained to less committed fans (like my wife for example).

100% They also have to make up stuff to talk about if the game is going slow or not many good plays happening.

Aikman is ok. I've never noticed him sounding too homerish on Boys games. Like many here I don't care for Buck, either. I wish he'd stick with baseball. Collinsworth is the guy most likely to provide the best insights, but even he tends to talk too much. None of them really bother me too much. It mostly just goes in one ear and out the other unless someone says something really insightful or really stupid.

I don't see Gus Johnson on there. I loved his calls when he used to do the NCAA Tourney and his Isaiah Thomas "Cold Blooded" call in the Pac 10 tournament still gives me goosebumps.

He's definitely my favorite since moving to Fox.

I got a big TV in the living room and it is several seconds behind the radio or I would just listen to Raible. What is effed up is my son is downstairs (cause his TV is bigger) and before the play starts on my TV, he is shouting about something. His TV doesn't have the delay.

I have not the intelligence nor the patience to figure it out. My life is shit! Maybe if I turn the radio on first?

Sounds like you have the same set up as me. My main TV room big screen is about 4 seconds behind the other TV's in the house. My best guess is that its because I have the PVR cable box on that TV and the rest are just on regular non-recording cable boxes.

I hate joe Buck from listening to him announce the Red Sox - Yankees games.
