Jeremy Lane’s tweets indicate Seahawks have benched him

Lane’s contract, with his base salary of $4 million already guaranteed, makes trading him before the Oct. 31 deadline unlikely. But the Seahawks would get salary cap relief in 2018 and 2019 by releasing him after the season as he has salary cap hits of $7.25 million in both 2018 and 2019.

They're probably happy with Griffin's performance outside and see him as a better long-term option and want to keep Lane at nickel.

Good to see the rift between players and coaches is shrinking

This is from the Giants game. Seahawks must be comfortable with Coleman in the slot or running a defensive formation with 3 safeties (McDougald, Chancellor and Thomas).

I've given up trying to predict what this team thinks. Just win games

Players get benched. That's how it goes. Not sure what the team is supposed to do.

Yup. If he wants his spot back as a starter, needs to shine in practice and if inserted in a game perform. Players aren’t expected to like getting benched.

Griffin is already better and has much more upside than Lane... Never been a fan of Lane... The right guy is getting the start... Griffin is going to be a very good player for us...

Well the question is whether Lane is the starting nickel even.

I see... Coleman has been the playmaker and has been better... Hawks are making the right decision... Like you said, players get benched... This is the right decision... Tough to trade Lane w/ his salary, I could see him becoming a FA at the end of the season... He's a journeyman type of a player pouting for being benched...

This probably is an indication that Shead will be made available pretty soon I would imagine

I initially expected the Seahawks to use McDougald more often. They used him a bunch against the Giants, along with Justin Coleman in the slot and seemed to like what they saw. Secondary performed well against the Giants, they may be depleted at WR but the entire defense was lights out. Can't blame the coaching staff on this one.

Good point.

Hawks will have a pretty difficult decision to make. Griffin has been pretty solid this year, but Shead was our #2 CB last year and performed pretty well in that role. Given Lane's contract, I'd imagine the Seahawks would rather play Coleman, Shead, Griffin and Sherman ahead of Lane. Only need 3 CBs, and one of them has a contract that is not team friendly.

I think the Hawks are fine with their current DB situation and want to give Griffin more reps because they see him as a future starter. Coleman has played just as well, and doesn't have Lane's price tag. With Shead returning from injury soon, it makes more sense to give the cheaper and younger players reps over Lane.

The Hawks are unlikely to trade Lane. His contract is very undesirable.

Another thing I noticed, someone please correct me if you think I'm wrong... But our D wasn't as complicated with schemes, we just lined up and punched um in the mouth, and I noticed Richards on the sideline looking like someone stole his cookies... I have a gut feeling Pete is cleaning some shit up there...

Actually, I noticed them blitzing three or four times in the game. Which rarely happens the last five years or so.

I think Lane has performed reasonably well overall but not up to the level of his contract and injury prone to the point that we can't count on him being available.

Fucking social media crap. I wonder if these guys realize how stupid they really look when they do this. Sorry to sound like a grammar nazi but when I read a guys tweet or whatever and he types shit like "how I get bench", I can't even take him seriously, regardless of his beef. I want to answer back, "you can get a bench at the garden center at Home Depot".
As for on the field, I'm with you guys. He flat out isn't as good as the guys playing, period. The bench is the best place for him.

I don't think anyone expected Coleman to play like he has, wow so far he has been a steal.
