I graduated same year Jeff Clement did and we went to schools just 10 miles apart. He broke the national high school record for career home runs (still holds it).
He went to USC for college. As a freshman, he was top 5 in the country in home runs. As a sophomore, he led the team in batting average. As a junior, he was NCAA catcher of the year (not sure what it's called), and entered the draft.
I think he was the 3rd pick by the Mariners. He played quite a bit in MLB but never was a star. Injuries moved him to 1st base and he was a "good" player and sub-par batter. But he should be a good addition to the coaching staff at Iowa.
