I don’t know the timing but if the deal wasn’t done yet he can’t tell a guy like Pat Bev and let him derail it.

He doesn’t have to tell Bev that he is being traded.

But he definitely shouldn’t say something like:

“No way man, you aren’t going anywhere!”

Just unnecessary

I can agree with that. He could have said it differently. If im a GM my pat answer (pun intended) is that’s not in the current plans. I’m telling that to Pat Bev, Lebron, KD, Larry Byrd, Oscar Robertson and the ghost of anyone before that.

Of course.

But I am pushing back on the idea that you and @thunderc both said it is a stupid question.

It is a legit question.

Bev knows he can’t expect any type of guarantee.

But that seems exactly what Morey did anyway.

And that is BS.

I don't think I said it was a stupid question, I just think that given that he knows how things work, it's not a question that he needed to ask or should have asked. But, given how he has typically responded to being traded, at least of late, he'd have just found something else to bitch about.

He wants to complain and say he was "lied to" by Morey and given the outcome, that's how it looks, but he knows how things work and knows he should have taken Morey's words with a grain of salt...but he leaves all that out and just says he was lied to.

End of the day, I don't think either of them handled it particularly well.

Outside of Pat Bev claiming so, how do we know what was actually said?

Do we know?

Of course not.

Do I believe him?

Yes.

Wouldn’t be the first time Morey has made a promise like that.

The Pat Bev talk is hilarious. You ask a stupid fn question you get what you get. No GM could possible answer that truthfully, nor should they. Things move fast. I’d be tempted to trade a guy just because he was stupid enough to ask that question.
What kind of imbecile executive ever implies Pat Bev to be untouchable?

But, if thunderc's precious internet cult buddies are being insulted it's best to just go with the flow apparently...
