He was great last year. He struggled with injuries and some inconsistency in 2016, but even that 4.37 ERA is a bit misleading IMO. He gave up 31 of his 77 ER that year in four starts (including 9 ER in 1+ IP). He had a sub-3 ERA in his other 22 starts.
Last year's strikeout rate was the 2nd best of his career, though a 9.6 K/9 in 2017 isn't quite as good as a 9.5 K/9 in 2009. The league K/9 has gone from 7.0 to 8.3.
Kinda reminds me of all the scientists on documentary TV programs who tell us the giant earthquake is sooner or later gonna happen. Sooner or later, everybody who plays baseball will have to retire because they can't throw very yard.
