Is Jason Day the best player not to win a major?

Just another example of how hard it is to win a major right now. JDs time is coming tho.

I see Rory being in the hunt for 3 majors this year. Might win 2.

I think this is the year that Fowler finally breaks out. He didn't have the wins last year but he was really consistent. I just think he needs to get that one under his belt and then he'll start rolling.

Yeah I really like Rickie's game and I was thinking the same thing about winning a major this year. 2? I don't know, I want to see 1 major first. The thing is.. Once you win that 1st tournament, you tend to relax a bit and the hunger goes away for a bit. First major? Same thing happens. Complacency..

Rickie was the only player in the history of golf to shoot 4 rounds in the 60's during a major and not win.. Did it last year I believe twice.

I don't know; that swing has so many moving parts.

Have you seen Jimmy Furyk at the top of his swing do the loop? :L But the guy is solid at impact. That's all that matters.

And yet Jimmy is in the hunt at every US Open or any other tourney with tight fairways and fast greens.

If you shoot in the 60's for 4 days at a major, you are the man. You can anything! ;)

This is an interesting look at his 2014

What percent of golfers did Rickie Fowler beat in 2014 at the majors? - CBSSports.com

I'd have to say he had the best year ever for a guy who didn't win a single tournament. But he did exceptional as far as being a pro and playing top tier golf every weekend. It's hard to win these things. You got to hope Rory's a little off because he has the ability to just blow the field away and even if he is off you have to worry about the rest of the field which is ridiculously loaded.

Day has to be the guy right now...he's been in the hunt a lot so he should know how to handle the butterflies.

That said...Augusta is Bubba's place...but when Rory is on with the driver, he can blow the field away. Something about this course that he's yet to figure out...we'll see.

Fowler...his retooled swing definitely works better. I think he needs to close the deal in a reg event this year.

I remember a few years ago (5-10, my memory if bad), Day got at least 2 top 3's at Augusta. Might have been 3 times actually.

But its also one of the reasons he's one of the biggest chokers in the game when the pressure is on.

Idk if it's b/c of the swing, but you're right...I can't think of any other player that's gotten more out of his talent than Furyk...he's a very rich man...by golfer standards for certain.

Day is a beast. He hits it as long as Watson and he also hits the highest ball on tour which is great as long as your not across the pond.

He has been hit with the injury bug but looks to be good now.

He can get sloppy with the driver but he has the power to be in contention in the big torns. To win the Masters this year ..I have a Day and Rory as a tie.

Out of the 3 times he played The Masters ... 2nd, 3rd and 20th (and a WD)

I wouldn't look at him as a choker. If you looked at the talent would you say that there's a guy who's going to get 16 tour wins with it? And the swing is a little funky but he's one of the most accurate players on the tour and he's held up for a long time. It's easy to say that he should have went with a little bit more of a conventional swing then he would have been better off but who knows? That makes him a different golfer at that point. I just think he doesn't have the stamina to hold up through 4 rounds of golf at this point.

When a few of you refer to Jimmy Furyk as a choker, why is that? Because of the ryder cup in Chicago? I can't recall Jimmy choking a lot. I mean, sometimes you just miss an easy putt or shot, but that doesn't mean you didn't make 3-4 crazy good shots to get into contention.

If you were to take 5 guys for a US Open pool, you'd be crazy not to take Jimmy Furyk. He's one of the most consistent player on fast green, deep rough, and tight fairways. Someone go post his last 10 US Open finishes.

That for certain as well as the horrific collapse at 16 at the U.S. Open at Olympic Club. And then the two shot lead he choked away on the last hole to Keegan Bradley. I think that was the Bridgestone? Its not he simply choked, it was the way he did it; complete gag jobs with victory in hand.

I'm still waiting for my boy Stricker to finally crack the ice but that is getting more improbable the older he gets.
