Go easy on him. He's feeling a little inadequate that Jimmy G has almost as many playoff appearances as his hero Romo does. The big difference is Jimmy G is undefeated in his appearance and has two rings. Romo is 2-6 and 0.

Well that is just not true. He has a loss to the Broncos from the 2015 season. Can't forget about that!

I apologize. I thought you were discussing just him being on the roster.
:yo:
No it wouldn't be a fair fight if I just used him being on the roster. If that was the case he'd shame Romo.

Having the largest fan base has nothing to do with how a player or a team plays. The largest number of NFL fans hate the Patriots but that doesn't have any effect on their play or championships. It absolutely amazes me how easily the original thread gets dragged off course. The original thread is about a rock and three pages later it's turned into a argument on Pine Trees.

I don't give a rat's shit about Romo. This thread is about trading Garapollo so let's stay on track.

NESN and CSNNE are both reporting this morning that FA back up QBs are visiting Foxboro. Names mentioned are Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith and several others. The Patriots will NOT carry four QBs. Somebody is leaving. The biggest prize is JG and the Patriots need a mid round first round draft choice to get Brandon Cooks. If the Cooks rumors are true, then JG is going to Cleveland for the #12 and change. That #12 will go to the Saints for Cooks and change. All of the pieces are starting to fall into place.

Yes it's called misinformation. Or maybe they're not? Every team does it and we're talking BB here. He'd trade his mom if the deal was right.

"introduces the possibility they’re being used as a stalking horse either by the Saints (with the Patriots okay) or by Cooks’ agents, who were mentioned in the piece by Katzenstein. The agents may do that to light a fire under the Eagles and Titans who -- earlier in the week --"

Brown have decided to go after future HOF QB Tyrod Taylor and the Bears are supposedly looking at Glennon.
Enjoy life in the toilet guys because your flushing 2017 and possibly your future down the drain.

The Patriots have a history of drafting a quarterback to play behind Tom Brady only to later trade him to a quarterback-needy team. This is what happens when Brady, now 39, shows no signs of slowing down.

Back in March 2009, New England sent Matt Cassel, who had started 15 games the season before and led helped the Pats to an 11-5 record, to Kansas City (along with linebacker Mike Vrabel) for a second-round pick. The Patriots parlayed the selection into safety Patrick Chung, who is still with the team. Meanwhile, Cassel never evolved into the franchise passer the Chiefs had hoped, and by 2013 he was playing in Minnesota. In the five seasons since, Cassel has played for three other clubs.

We mention all this because Brady's current backup is Jimmy Garoppolo, He started the first two games of the 2016 season, while Brady served his Deflategate suspension, and led the Pats to two wins. In those games, Garoppolo completed 42 of 59 attempts (71 percent) for 469 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. And with just one game remaining in the 2016 season after Sunday, the "Pats are willing to trade Garoppolo" rumors have ramped up.

Here's what NFL.com's Ian Rapoport said Sunday on "NFL GameDay Morning":

"The Patriots are open to trading Jimmy Garoppolo and they are going to listen to all offers, as they have over the last couple years for Garoppolo -- and they have gotten a couple inquiries," Rapoport said. "But from what I am being told there are several complicating factors: First of all, the price tag, expected to be at least a first-round pick -- just based off the quarterback market. Will anyone give them that? Second of all, are the Patriots really comfortable going forward with [third-string QB]Jacoby Brissett as their backup quarterback in case Tom Brady gets hurt? That might be the biggest question of all."

This isn't the first time we've heard the Pats might put Garoppolo on the trade block. In December, former Browns executive Mike Lombardi -- who worked with Bill Belichick in Cleveland back in the mid-1990s and was an assistant in New England from 2014-2016 -- said this:

"The next quarterback that'll be the Cleveland Browns' quarterback perhaps is Jimmy Garoppolo in New England," Lombardi said during a television appearance at the time. "I think Cleveland understands, Hue Jackson specifically understands he needs a quarterback. I think they'll be very aggressive. I think Jimmy Garoppolo's on top of their list, and I think they'll go hard after him.

"I think the Patriots will decide whether [to trade Garoppolo] based on the deal they're offered and Cleveland has enough assets to entice them."

The Browns have two first-round picks -- the first overall and No. 12, thanks to the Eagles -- but it's hard to imagine that they'd be willing to part with either of them for Garoppolo, mostly because Cleveland has so many needs up and down the roster.

NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang and Dane Brugler, in their most recent mock drafts for CBSSports.com, both have the Browns taking Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett with that first selection and Florida cornerback Tez Tabor 11 picks later.

If you are the Browns do you trade a first rounder plus to get Jimmy G or trade like a second to get McCarron who has worked with Hugh Jackson. Both are FA at the end of the year. To me McCarron is the safer and better options. So if the new Front office in Cleveland is as smart as some people think I believe NE will have a tough time getting that many draft picks from Cleveland.

If teams are looking in other directions for QB's, it does not mean they didn't want JG. It means that NE was not going to move him for anything. Only other team is SF. Are the rumored to bring in any other QB's??

The Bears (Glennon) and the Browns (Osweiler) are out of the Jimmy G sweepstakes. Looking more like he will be a Patriot again this year. The Niners are still trying to pry Cousins away from Washington and may look at JG if those plans fall through. Houston may be looking at a vet free agent (Romo?).

The Browns are NOT out of the JG trade. Osweiler was a way for them to get rid of their $100M in cap money and still get a second round draft choice from the Texans. Osweiler is a one year $10M cap hit. They have to pay him $16M but they do not intend to keep him after this year. His salary and cap are huge. If anything, this is where they can make a deal for JG at a better leverage position. More than likely, they will offer the Texans 2nd round pick and the #33. If they absolutely have to do it, they make it the #33 and #52 and the Texans and refuse to give up a first round pick. BB would take the three seconds.

That should have read

"get rid of some of their $100M in cap money that they will not be able to spend."

Browns are smart. They can release Osweiler and when another team signs him......the Browns are free and clear of Osweilers contract.

Covered Browns, Cleveland sports since 1998

The Cleveland Browns sure do keep things interesting.

Thursday, the Browns brought the NFL trade world to a new level when they essentially spent $16 million to acquire a 2018 second-round draft pick.

Now that is some serious analytics.

How does this work? Let's go point by point.

The Houston Texans had a quarterback, Brock Osweiler, they had grossly overpaid to acquire last year.

Osweiler is due $16 million guaranteed in salary this season. Houston didn't want to pay it; the Texans wanted to pursue Tony Romo.

The Browns had the cap room to take that salary.

So Cleveland took Osweiler and his guaranteed money, and because they did Houston a favor, the Browns also received the Texans' second-round draft pick in 2018.

The Browns will make a decision soon on Osweiler's future, but he does not figure to stay in Cleveland. The Browns will be responsible for paying the $16 million, but the team started free agency with just more than $100 million in salary-cap room. Accounting for an additional $16 million is not difficult under the cap, though it is a significant cash cost.

To make the deal work -- the Browns couldn't just take Osweiler and a second-round pick and give up nothing -- the teams also exchanged 2017 draft picks. Houston gets a fourth, Cleveland a sixth.

In essence, the Browns did the Texans a solid by taking Osweiler's salary, and the Texans showed their thanks with the second-round pick. Between 2016, '17 and '18, the Browns will have 10 first- and second-round picks.

The Browns essentially bought a second-round draft pick for $16 million, and acquired a quarterback they can evaluate or perhaps even trade -- and likely reduce the cash obligation in a trade.

And they can turn the pick they acquired into another player via trade.

Immediate speculation will fall on a possible deal for New England's Jimmy Garoppolo, but there have been no rumblings on that front on a busy opening day of NFL free agency.

The Browns value draft picks.

This trade proves it.

NFL Network is reporting that the Cleveland Browns will release RG III and Brock Osweiler today. The Brown have decided to fully pursue Jimmy Garapollo to be their QB for the 2017 season.

If you don't believe this, turn on the NFL Network on your TV and watch the scroll across the bottom of your screen. It will be in the "Breaking News" or "Headlines" or both.

Free and clear of the last 2 years of it. His 2017 salary is fully guaranteed so that will stay on their cap no matter what.

Officially, Oz counts $10M against the Cleveland cap if he's released.

Cleveland announced last night that they would pony up $8M of Oz's salary if any team took him in a trade.

Not sure where you're getting that $10M # from. He has a fully guaranteed base salary of $16M. There are no breaks on the cap on that for cutting him. Only way to relieve any of it would be via trade, and even if they're willing to kick in half of it to facilitate a trade, Osweiler still has a say in that because he would have to agree to a restructured deal to convert half of the base salary to bonus money.

The Browns will definitely release RG III within the next 24 hours. If not, his contract calls for a large payment due to him. Osweiler is on a different timetable and the Browns need not be in a hurry with him. All the local Cleveland sports talk show hosts are saying there is no news regarding a Garoppolo trade. What they are saying is that, while there are several Browns officials who are pushing strongly for the trade, there are reportedly even more Patriot officials who are strongly against the trade. The main sticking point is leaving 40 year old TB unprotected if age suddenly catches up with him. I still think the trade might happen, with BB picking up a vet FA QB to fill in until Brissett is deemed ready to take over.
