Its obvious they were on the rise until he got killed and that forced them to start over again. They had Ozuna,Yelich, and Stanton in the Outfield and Realmuto at Catcher.

How good could they have been?

Fernandez was just recovering from his surgery and was ready to contribute as a starting pitcher.
this franchise may never recover. the current ownership group has their work cut out for them.

Not to be a downer, but they would have traded Hernandez too.

they probably finish above .500 with him in 201, though they'd still have a pretty mediocre pitching staff. But maybe then they don't do a complete teardown.

That rebuild is probably going to make Yelich a shitload more money than he would have gotten in Miami. That has to be the worst park in the majors for left handed power. Yelich already has more home runs since he has been in Milwaukee than he had in 4 years in Miami. His slugging percentage is 150-200 points Higher. I'm trying to think of any lefthanded hitter that had success there - Justin Bour I guess...... Don't get me wrong, Yelich would still be a very good hitter, just not an MVP candidate every year like he will be now.

I think about that often as a Marlins fan. I see all those guys tearing it up for everyone else and think what could have been. What other starters could we have got in FA to join him and make a run. Now it's all ground zero.
