You called them spot tails....They look a bit like redfish. It's been a while since I've fished saltwater.

They are Redfish. We just grew up calling them spot tails.

Ok...I've caught a couple when I was a kid in Naples back in the 70's. Due to storm damage, the last half of the Naples pier was closed for several months as the town repaired some of the pilings. So no fishing was happening in the deepest part of the pier for those months.

I was a little pier rat and was there the day they opened it back up to the public. People were pulling 20 pounders right out from under the pier that day by the dozens.

I latched into a couple of the big ones but got tore up pretty good. My Mitchell/Garcia 300 was a singing. I had a blast, and even managed to get two in that day about the size you have in the first picture.

For me it was right up there with grouper taste wise. I haven't caught one since. I'm retiring from my real job this year, so I'm gonna make up for some lost time one day soon.

Yea man, get back out there. I love it and have no idea how I would survive without fishing. Seriously.

My mother's home is on a deep water creek of the Satilla River delta. I've caught redfish and striped bass from her dock in the Spring and Fall. Her bass pond has yielded some fat largemouths. One morning, just before I was to leave, I caught two ~10-pounders, one after the other; turned 'em loose; let 'em breed. I haven't any pics to share. I'll have to start photographing my catch, now that I've found a place to share tales of the rod & reel.

My wife and I are about to buy a house within about a 5 minute walk to a small lake. Not sure if the fishing there is any good, but I am sure as hell gonna find out soon.

Sounds like good fishin to me. I've been throwing a crankbait lately around brush and laydowns and having pretty good results catching bass.

What's in your arsenal? Here's a piece of mine. Most of my hardbaits. There's another box or two of misc. baits that I rarely break out.

Many anglers have issues like you edisto!

I strung picture frame wire around the perimeter of my sporting room up near the ceiling. Then hung all my lures around. Now, instead of being in different boxes, I can see them all like a sporting goods store and I just make up a carry box depending upon what I'm chasin'

That's a pretty good idea, because I cram as many as I can in a box and that means there's 2, 3, or 4 cranks in one slot and I have to sit there and pull the hooks apart and separate them to get them out. If I could minimize what I take according to what I'm going to be fishing, I wouldn't have to struggle with pulling them apart while I'm on the water. I'll have to find a place to set this system up. Thanks.

Yeah and it's also a pretty cool decoration in a room full of fish mounts. You'll need to have a cup screw every 20 inches or so or the line will sag and the lures will slide together.
